This post is all about the best healthy gluten-free banana bread recipe.
Healthy Gluten-Free Banana Bread
Ingredients Needed:
- Bananas: The bananas have to be ripe or else the banana bread will not taste good. The spottier the banana, the better!
- Gluten-free oat flour: This is a gluten-free banana bread but if you are not concerned about whether it’s gluten-free or not then you can definitely use normal oat flour.
- Organic coconut oil: You can also use avocado oil.
- Eggs
- Organic coconut sugar: DO NOT skip this step because this is what makes the banana bread taste SO much better than most banana breads out there!
- Sea salt: opt for sea salt or Himalayan salt for a healthier alternative to table salt.
- Baking soda
- Ground cinnamon: DO NOT skip this step too because this also makes the banana bread taste amazing!
- Chocolate chips: You can swap for any toppings you want, such as sliced banana or walnuts.
How To Make The Best Moist Gluten-Free Banana Bread
- Start by preheating your oven to 175°C (350°F). While the oven is heating up, gather all your ingredients to ensure a smooth baking process.
- In a large bowl, take the ripe bananas and use a fork to thoroughly mash them until you achieve a smooth consistency. Make sure there are no chunks of banana left.
- Gradually add each ingredient one by one into the bowl with the mashed bananas.
- Use a spatula or a wooden spoon to gently combine the ingredients. It’s crucial not to overmix; just stir until everything is well incorporated, and the batter is smooth. Overmixing may result in a denser texture.
- Once the batter is ready, add most of the chocolate chips into the bowl, leaving a handful aside for later. Carefully fold the chocolate chips into the batter until they are evenly distributed.
- Line a loaf pan with non-stick baking paper to prevent sticking. Pour the banana bread batter into the prepared pan. To ensure an even distribution, gently shake the pan from side to side. Now, sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top of the batter for that extra chocolatey goodness.
- Place the filled loaf pan in the preheated oven. Bake for approximately 30 to 45 minutes. To check for doneness without overbaking, insert a skewer into the center of the banana bread after 25 minutes. If it comes out wet, give it another 5 minutes before rechecking. Perfectly baked banana bread usually takes around 35-40 minutes.
- Once your gluten-free banana bread is beautifully golden and a skewer comes out clean, remove it from the oven. Let it cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes. Cooling is essential to prevent the bread from falling apart when sliced.
- Enjoy! This is the perfect breakfast or snack.

How To Know When The Banana Bread Is Cooked?
Before I get into sharing the best banana bread recipe, I wanted to give you guys a good tip to make sure you are not overcooking or undercooking the banana bread so it stays nice and moist. The baking time varies between 30-45 minutes. At 30 minutes, insert a skewer in the middle of the cake and if it comes out with just crumbs then it is cooked. If not then check it every 5 minutes until the skewer is clean.
Why Is This Recipe The Healthiest Gluten-Free Banana Bread?
There are so many banana bread recipes but I wanted to make sure that the banana bread I was making would be low in calories and the healthiest it can be. So I made a few swaps! I swapped regular flour with oat flour to make it gluten free. I also swapped regular sugar with organic coconut sugar which is low in calories and a healthy alternative to sugar. Also, Instead of using sunflower oil, which is packed with unhealthy fats, I swapped it with coconut oil (you can also use avocado oil).
The coconut sugar made a huge difference in the taste. I have made banana bread before with regular sugar and it did not taste good at all. Coconut sugar makes the banana bread taste so much better!
So if you want to enjoy your banana bread without any guilt and also ensure that your little ones are eating good and not snacks full of sugar then I highly recommend you make these small changes! As I have mentioned in the introduction, I bought all these ingredients from Holland and Barret. However, if you do not have a store near you then I have linked them below for you to order.
How To Store
Storing banana bread properly is essential to maintain its freshness and prevent it from drying out or becoming stale. Here’s how to store banana bread:
- Cool Completely: Before storing, ensure that the banana bread has cooled completely. If you store it while it’s still warm, condensation can form inside the container, making the bread soggy.
- Use an Airtight Container: Ensure the container is large enough to accommodate the bread without squishing it.
- Store at Room Temperature: If you plan to consume the banana bread within a day or two, it can be stored at room temperature. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
- Refrigeration: If you want to extend the shelf life of your banana bread for a longer period, you can refrigerate it. Keep in mind that refrigeration can make the bread slightly firmer, so you may want to allow it to come to room temperature before serving or heat your slice in the microwave for at least 20 seconds.
