Old me vs. new me: what actually helped me lose 20

Old me vs. new me: what actually helped me lose 20kg ⬇️

After my first baby, I spent nearly a year doing everything we’re told to do. Eat less, move more, count this, track that, do more cardio. All it did was leave me craving foods, binge eating on weekends, and feeling like my body was holding on to everything.

So I stopped, unlearned it all, and started looking at the science. I read what glucose experts and obesity researchers were saying and learned how the body actually works. Once I started working with my body instead of against it, things finally changed.

Swipe to see what I swapped!

None of it is extreme. These are real, sustainable habits I can keep doing for life.

My weight loss guide teaches everything you need to lose weight and keep it off long term. If you’re ready to take your health seriously and build a lifestyle that lasts,

3 ingredient Greek yogurt cinnamon rolls that seriously taste just as good as the traditional ones, so soft and fluffy and absolutely delicious!! No rising time needed, no kneading needed (just a little kneading while the dough is still in the bowl to get everything mixed into a dough). Seriously, they’re made in under 40 minutes!!😮‍💨

Constant snacking and sugar cravings aren’t a will

Constant snacking and sugar cravings aren’t a willpower problem.

30 minutes after a meal, you’re reaching for something sweet, then you’re hungry again an hour later, and the cycle never ends.

These were the signs I was experiencing and I never knew it was because my meals weren’t blood sugar balancing - I was too focused on my calories and hitting a certain number. You could be eating something healthy but it can cause a spike!

Once I understood what was driving it and how to tackle it, my weight loss finally moved. I lost 20kg and lost body fat (because yes you can lose weight and not lose belly fat) and created a guide on what really matters beyond exercise and calorie counting!

One of the biggest things I learnt while losing 20

One of the biggest things I learnt while losing 20kg was that getting healthier wasn’t just about eating better and exercising more.

I had to stop constantly pushing myself and start actually taking care of myself.

Because when you’re stressed, sleep deprived and running on empty, healthy habits can feel SO much harder to maintain.

And plus losing belly and face fat can become even harder if you’re not managing stress. This is why when you have been super stressed, you crave a lot of carbs/sugary foods, can’t sleep well (e.g. waking up between the hours 2-4am), and it makes losing fat so much harder than it needs to be!

So instead of asking:
“What’s another workout I can do?”

“What else can I cut out?”

I started asking:

“What can I do today that will help me feel better?”

And honestly? These little daily self care habits you do on a daily add up.

Managing stress isn’t about having a completely stress-free life. It’s about creating small habits that help you cope with the stress you do have.

And this is something I wish more people talked about when it comes to sustainable weight loss.

You don’t need to do MORE all the time.

Sometimes you need to take better care of yourself.

If you’re trying to lose weight but feel overwhelmed by where to start, I’ve created a FREE Weight Loss Starter Kit to help you build simple, sustainable habits without the overwhelm.

Recipe ⬇️

One thing I’ve been incorporating into my baby’s meals this time around is bone marrow.

Bone marrow is naturally rich in healthy fats and nutrients, making it an easy way to add extra energy and richness to baby’s meals when they’re starting solids.

I add around ½–1 tsp to:
• vegetable purées
• mashed vegetables
• mashed egg
• Meat Puree

It’s such an easy little addition, especially when you’re focusing on nutrient-dense foods rather than just filling their tummy

Comment TIPS and I’ll send you my starting solids blog post with all the healthy swaps I’m making with my second baby that I wish I did with my first! 🩵💗

Recipe:
Get your bone marrows( I got my grass fed ones from @saffron_alley - Use code MARIAM10 for 10% off your order) and preheat your oven to 200°C.

Roast for around 20–25 minutes, until the marrow is soft and easy to scoop.

Carefully remove from the oven and let the bones cool for a few minutes so they’re safe enough to handle.. Be very careful as they’ll be extremely hot.

Scoop out the soft marrow and pour any rendered fat from the tray into the bowl.

Let the marrow cool, then pop it into the fridge until chilled.

Using an electric mixer, whip the chilled marrow until light and fluffy, almost like a cream.

To store, spoon ½–1 tsp portions onto a plate lined with baking paper and freeze.

Once frozen, transfer the little portions into a freezer-safe zip-lock bag.

Then whenever I need some, I can take out ½–1 tsp, gently warm it (it will become liquid again) and mix it into purées, mashed vegetables or eggs for some extra healthy fats and nutrients.

Unpopular weight loss truth: FAT DOESN’T MAKE YOU

Unpopular weight loss truth: FAT DOESN’T MAKE YOU FAT 🥑

Comment 12 and I’ll send you my weight loss guide

And this is something I wish I understood when I first started trying to lose weight.

One of the first things many people do is start buying everything “low-fat” or “0%”

❌ skimmed milk
❌ 0% Greek yoghurt
❌ low-fat cheese
❌ low-fat spreads
❌ removing egg yolks

Because we’ve been taught that if we’re trying to lose body fat, we need to eat less dietary fat.

Fat is an important part of the structure of the brain and nervous system and plays roles in things like hormone production and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.

And here’s an example I think makes this really easy to understand:

🥛 Take skimmed or semi skimmed milk.
Whole milk naturally contains fat + lactose (the natural sugar in milk).

The fat is there for a reason. God put that fat there.

Full-fat milk contains naturally occurring fat, which helps with satiety and slows the absorption of the natural sugar in milk.

Remove the fat and you’re left with the same lactose - the natural sugar in milk - but without that fat.

So basically… sugar water with the good stuff taken out. 😂meaning bigger glucose spike = more fat storage in the body!

That’s why I personally don’t look at whole milk and think:
“That fat is going to make me fat.”

I look at the food as a whole.

It’s basically the difference between:

“Remove the fat because I’m scared of calories”
vs.
“Keep the natural fat, enjoy it in a sensible portion and build a balanced meal around it.”

portions still matter. Just like with everything else.

The point is: stop automatically assuming that lower-fat = healthier or better for weight loss.

🥑 avocado
🥚 whole eggs
🐟 salmon
🥣 full-fat Greek yoghurt
🫒 extra virgin olive oil
🥛 full-fat milk in my coffee

These are all foods that will support your health and help you lose fat.

That’s what helped me lose 20kg and, more importantly, maintain it for years. 🤍

And this is exactly what I teach inside my Weight Loss Guide — how to build balanced meals, understand what you’re eating, create sustainable habits and lose weight without making dieting your entire l
