A high-protein bagel pizza recipe made with homemade bagels, a tasty tuna and onion topping—perfect for lunch, meal prep, or picnics!

There’s something so satisfying about a bagel pizza—it hits the spot when you’re craving pizza, but it’s even better when the bagel is homemade. It’s quick, easy, and makes the perfect light lunch or picnic option!
The best part? You can switch up the toppings depending on what you’re in the mood for. Today, I’m sharing a go-to recipe I’ve been making for years—especially when packing food for a picnic. It’s a tuna bagel pizza that’s super simple, incredibly tasty, and packed with protein. I use my homemade cottage cheese bagels, which makes it even healthier and higher in protein than the usual store-bought ones.
In this post, I’ll show you how to make the cottage cheese bagels (which I highly recommend if you want to skip the processed options) and how to put together this easy, high-protein tuna pizza topping.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do! If you try it, I’d love to hear your thoughts—please leave a comment and rating below. And if you share it on Instagram, don’t forget to tag me @lotsoflovemariam—I’d love to see your creations!

Healthy Pizza Bagel Recipe
Ingredients Needed
Homemade Bagels
- Cottage Cheese
- Plain Flour
- Baking Powder
- Salt
- Egg
- Optional: sesame and poppy seeds
Pizza Bagel Topping
- Tuna (I used tuna in brine)
- Small white onion
- Tomato passata
- Cheese
- Extra virgin olive oil (if your tuna came in sunflower oil then you do not need to use this)
How To Make Pizza Bagels
Homemade Bagel
- In a bowl add your flour, baking powder, and salt (if you are adding it), and mix. Then add your cottage cheese, and mix with a spatula first then using your hands mix it together to form a dough. Then knead the dough together 10-20 times. The dough shouldn’t be too sticky or dry either.
- Form into a ball and then cover the bowl with a tea towel and let it set for 10 minutes (the dough isn’t going to rise so if you see that it has risen then it’s normal).
- After 10 minutes, preheat your oven to 175 C and then start to flour the service and roll into a log. Then cut the log into 4 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a 6-7 inch rope. And then bring the two ends together to form a bagel. Make sure you pinch the ends together so they stick and stay in a bagel shape. Then place each bagel on top of a non-stick baking sheet on your baking tray
- Whisk an egg and brush the top of the cottage cheese bagels with the beaten egg and top with the toppings (sesame and poppy seeds).
- Pop in the oven and bake for 25 minutes until golden and puffy. And then allow to cool completely for at least 15-20 minutes (do not skip this part!!)
- Let it cool down before making your pizza bagel. I recommend making these ahead of time and having them ready for the week for when you want to make your pizza bagel!
Pizza Bagel Instructions
- You can use any toppings you like, but when I want something high in protein, delicious, and super quick to make, I always go for a tuna bagel pizza.
- Start by thinly slicing a small white onion and preheating a pan. Add a little ghee and sauté the onion until it softens. Season with a little bit of salt and black pepper, then add a can of well-drained tuna (I use tuna in brine). Stir everything together and finish with a light drizzle of extra virgin olive oil for added flavour.
- Next, slice your bagel in half and spread a layer of tomato passata—I always use passata because it gives such a rich, fresh flavour to homemade pizzas. Sprinkle on some cheese, then add your tuna and onion mixture, and top it off with a little more cheese.
- Pop it in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Enjoy!
