These 3 ingredient cottage cheese bagels will become your new family favourite! They are so easy and quick to make and taste absolutely insane!
Cottage cheese has been stealing the spotlight lately, with an explosion of creative recipes showcasing its versatility—everything from cottage cheese pancakes to brownies, and now, cottage cheese bagels! I’m here for it all, especially when it involves making something both healthy and packed with protein.
I recently decided to try cottage cheese for the first time after debating whether I’d actually like it. It turns out, I’m not alone—I’ve had plenty of messages on Instagram asking after sharing my first cottage cheese recipe, “How does cottage cheese taste?” or “Can you taste it in your pancakes?” So, let me clear things up:
- Cottage cheese has a flavour similar to cream cheese, so if you’re a fan of cheese—especially cream cheese—you’ll probably love cottage cheese too.
- And no, you can’t taste it in my cottage cheese pancake recipe, and you definitely won’t taste it in these cottage cheese bagels either!
I’ve seen a lot of people making bagels with yogurt, but since cottage cheese has even more protein than Greek yogurt, I had to give it a try. The result? A delicious, protein-packed breakfast or lunch option that my whole family loves. Plus, if you’re not confident working with dough, don’t worry—this recipe is straightforward and takes just 40 minutes from start to finish.
I hope you enjoy these cottage cheese bagels as much as we did—they quickly became a new family favourite! I’d love to hear what you think, so please leave a rating and a comment below, and don’t forget to tag me on Instagram @lotsoflovemariam—I can’t wait to see your recreations!

Ingredients Needed
- Full-fat cottage cheese
- Plain flour
- Baking powder
- Salt (this is optional but I just add a pinch of salt)
Cottage cheese bagel toppings:
- Egg
- Mix of sesame and poppy seeds
How To Make This Cottage Cheese Bagels Recipe
In a bowl, add your flour, baking powder, and salt, and mix. Then add your cottage cheese, and mix with a spatula first then using your hands to mix it together to form a dough. Then knead the dough together 10-20 times (in the bowl). The dough shouldn’t be too sticky or dry either.
Form into a ball and then cover the bowl with a tea towel and let it set for 10 minutes (the dough isn’t going to rise, it is just to let it set).
After 10 minutes, preheat your oven to 175 C and then start to flour the worktop and roll into a log. Then cut the log into 4 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a 6-7 inch rope. And then bring the two ends together to form a bagel. Make sure you pinch the ends together so they stick and stay in a bagel shape. Then place each bagel on top of a non-stick baking sheet on your baking tray.
Whisk an egg and brush the top of the cottage cheese bagels with the beaten egg and top with the toppings (sesame and poppy seeds).
Pop in the oven and bake for 25 minutes until golden and puffy. And then allow to cool completely for at least 15-20 minutes (do not skip this part!!)
Why You’ll Love This Bagel Recipe
- Easy: These bagels require just three simple ingredients and are easy to make—even if you typically struggle with handling dough.
- Quick: Unlike traditional bread, these bagels are ready in under 45 minutes, meaning you can enjoy fresh, homemade bread the same day without spending hours in the kitchen.
- High in Protein: Unlike regular bagels, even those labeled “high in protein,” these are genuinely protein-packed and healthier. With only three ingredients, they’re a much cleaner alternative to store-bought versions that often contain over ten processed ingredients.
How To Store
When they are cooked, allow them to fully cool down. Then store them in an air-tight bag and keep them at room temperature. They will last for at least 4-5 days.
If you want them to last long, store them in a freezer for 4 months. Just defrost them overnight and then toast them to enjoy.

This recipe was the easiest and best tasting bagels ever! Even my picky eater son said they were a 9/10 ; ) I followed the recipe exactly, except I cooked for an extra 5 minutes. I topped with everything but the bagel seasoning, one plain, and poppy seeds. Can’t wait to make different flavors and use this as my base recipe!
