Plan the perfect 4 days in Istanbul itinerary for your second visit with hidden gems, local eats, and relaxing spots beyond the main attractions.

When we first visited Istanbul in 2024, we made sure to tick off all the must-see attractions — from the iconic mosques and grand palaces to markets and world-famous museums. But even with six packed days, there were still a few places on our list that we didn’t get to see.
If it’s your first time in Istanbul, I highly recommend checking out my 6-day Istanbul itinerary, which covers all the essential sights and experiences for a first-time visitor. But if you’re heading back for a second trip like we did, this 4 days in Istanbul itinerary is perfect for slowing down, exploring hidden gems, and soaking in the charm of the city without rushing from one attraction to the next.
That’s exactly why I loved this trip — it felt more relaxed and personal. If you’re staying for more than a week in Istanbul, you can easily combine my 6-day itinerary with this 4-day Istanbul itinerary to get the best of both worlds.
Istanbul is one of those cities you can visit over and over again and still discover something new. So if you’re wondering what to see in Istanbul in 4 days on your second visit, or even asking yourself “Is 4 days enough in Istanbul?”, this guide has you covered.

Is 4 Days In Istanbul Enough?
Yes — 4 days in Istanbul can absolutely be enough, but it depends on your travel goals and whether it’s your first or second visit.
If this is your first time in Istanbul, 4 days will give you a good taste of the city, but be prepared to move at a faster pace to fit in all the highlights. Many first-time visitors (us included!) quickly realise how much there is to see and end up wanting to come back for more.
That’s why I’ve created a detailed 6-day Istanbul itinerary to help you make the most of your first trip — and you can easily adapt it for a 4-day visit if needed.
If this is your second time in Istanbul, then 4 days is more than enough — especially if you covered the major sights during your first trip. On our return, we had 4 full days in the city, travelled with a 4-year-old, and still had plenty of time to explore new places, revisit our favourite spots, and even enjoy some slow mornings without a packed schedule.
This 4 days in Istanbul itinerary is designed exactly for that: a mix of sightseeing, hidden gems, and downtime so you can truly enjoy the city without feeling rushed.
Quick Note:
This itinerary is perfect for anyone visiting Istanbul for a second time who has already explored the main attractions like museums, palaces, and mosques. It’s also a great addition if you’re staying in Istanbul for a week or longer, giving you plenty of time to see more and enjoy the city at a relaxed pace.
If you are visiting for the first time and for longer than a week, then combine my 6 day Istanbul itinerary with this 4 days in Istanbul itinerary!
4 Days In Istanbul Guide
Day 1

Begin your first day at a relaxed pace with breakfast or a snack in the historic Çemberlitaş area. We stopped by Tarihi Çemberlitaş, Borekcski Faith, which I’d rate 8/10 — they serve fresh börek in a variety of flavors. We tried the cheese börek, and it was delicious!
This day is perfect for revisiting some of the spots you loved during your first trip. It’s a great way to ease into your Istanbul visit, but feel free to swap this day with Day 3 or 4 if it suits your schedule better.
We wandered through the Spice Bazaar again, which has so many affordable things, and did some window shopping at the Grand Bazaar.

For lunch, don’t miss the famous Balık Ekmek (fish sandwich) at Eminönü, just outside the Spice Bazaar. Their fish wrap (balık dürüm) is considered the best in Istanbul — it was one of the main reasons we returned! I’ve included the exact location in the button below for you.

I also highly recommend a Bosphorus cruise — we did this on our first visit, but with much nicer weather this time, it was a must-repeat. It’s one of the most relaxing 1.5 hours you’ll spend in Istanbul, offering stunning views of the Bosphorus and the beautiful waterfront mansions, especially on the Asian side around Üsküdar.

End your day in the Galata area, known for its vibrant cafes and restaurants. Stop by Viyana Kahvesi to enjoy the classic San Sebastián cheesecake or try some new desserts — a sweet way to wrap up your first day.

Day 2

Bebek is one of Istanbul’s most affluent neighborhoods, known for its stunning waterfront and charming streets in nearby Arnavutköy. The scenic views along the Bosphorus here are truly unbeatable, and there are plenty of cozy cafes to relax in while soaking it all in.

Before heading to Bebek, we stopped in Ortaköy, which is just a short ride away. Since we missed trying kumpir (stuffed baked potato) on our first trip, this time we made sure to indulge in it at one of the local spots. Ortaköy itself is incredibly picturesque, with its beautiful mosque right by the water — definitely worth a visit again.

While in Ortaköy, I highly recommend stopping by Durumcu Enişte for some authentic Turkish food. Their meat platter for two was absolutely delicious, and we ordered a kofte wrap for our little one, which was a big hit!

After lunch, take a bus to Bebek to explore the waterfront, wander through Arnavutköy’s charming streets, and enjoy a laid-back day of cafe hopping. We treated ourselves to some ice cream at a local shop before heading to Espresso Lab — where I had the best iced Spanish latte I’ve ever tasted. They’re famous for serving some of the best coffee in Istanbul, so whatever you order here, you’re in for a treat!
Day 3
Many first-time visitors to Istanbul either skip the Asian side or only visit the popular spots like Üsküdar, where the Camlica Mosque and Beylerbeyi Palace are located. That was exactly our experience during our first trip — we ran out of time and missed exploring the charming neighborhoods nearby.
For your second visit, including Üsküdar in your 4 days in Istanbul itinerary is a must. Take time to explore the delightful neighborhoods of Kuzguncuk and Çengelköy.

I instantly fell in love with Kuzguncuk’s boho vibe — filled with cute cafes, colorful corners, and charming market stalls. Just strolling through this neighborhood is such a lovely and unique experience.

Next, hop on a bus to Çengelköy, where you’ll find a beautiful waterfront with views of local fishermen, plus more cozy cafes and restaurants to explore.
When you’re ready to head back, catch the ferry from Çengelköy Pier to the European side. It’s one of the best ways to experience the Bosphorus, especially during golden hour or sunset — the views are breathtaking.
For the evening, I recommend heading to Taksim and Istiklal Street for a relaxed dinner and dessert. We enjoyed dinner at Halk Döner Beyoğlu, a great spot for a buffet-style meal with delicious and affordable food. Their lamb and rice was an absolute 10/10!

End your night with a stroll down Istiklal and don’t miss the best baklava in Istanbul at Faruk Güllüoğlu. I highly, highly recommend trying their cold chocolate baklava — it’s a decadent 20/10!
Day 4

Istanbul is home to many shopping malls, but for this trip, we chose to visit Zeruj Mall — a true hidden gem with a stunning collection of clothes, especially perfect if you prefer modest fashion. You don’t need to wear a hijab to shop here; the mall offers beautiful pieces like shirts, skirts, and trousers that anyone can enjoy.
We ended up spending almost the entire day exploring every shop because the selection was so unique!
Aside from shopping, Day 4 is also a great opportunity to revisit any favorite spots from earlier in your trip — maybe that cozy café you loved or a scenic viewpoint you want to soak in one last time. It’s also the perfect time to pick up souvenirs to take home, whether it’s Turkish delights, spices, or handmade crafts.
If you’re flying out the next day, use this day to relax, pack, and reflect on your Istanbul adventure — after all, sometimes the best part of traveling is slowing down and savoring the memories before you head home.
