Start your trip stress-free with a simple travel morning routine that keeps you calm, organised, and ready for smooth travel days.

Travel mornings can feel chaotic — early flights, last-minute packing, or trying to get your toddler dressed while triple-checking you haven’t forgotten your passport. Sound familiar?
Over the years, I’ve created a simple but effective travel morning routine that helps me stay calm, organised, and actually enjoy the process of getting from A to B.
Now, I know what you’re probably thinking: “I’m going on holiday — why would I need a morning routine? I won’t be stressed!”
But trust me, once you’ve got a structured travel morning routine in place, you’ll feel the difference. No more rushing out the door in a panic or second-guessing whether you packed everything. And that travel bloat? Yep, no more of that!
If you’re looking for a way to start your trip with a clear mind, positive energy, and a lot less stress — this post is for you!

Travel Day Morning Routine
The Night Before (this is an important part of the routine)
A calm and smooth travel morning routine actually starts the night before. Things can get a little hectic — especially with last-minute packing, getting things ready for the kids, and trying not to forget anything important.
Here’s a quick and practical night-before travel checklist to help you feel prepared and reduce that morning stress:
Charge All Your Devices
Make sure your phone, headphones, tablets (especially if you’re bringing them for the kids), and even your portable fan are fully charged. You can always top up the battery in the morning while getting ready.
Lay Out Your Travel Outfit
Choose something comfortable, weather-appropriate, and airport-friendly. Laying it out the night before saves time and decision fatigue in the morning.
Prep Your Healthy Travel Snacks
Pack your healthy travel snacks and sandwiches the night before — it’ll save you money at the airport (where prices are always double!).
Gather All Travel Documents
Put your passports, boarding passes, IDs, and any travel documents in your bag and place them next to your suitcase or hand luggage — one less thing to think about in the morning.
Tidy Up the House
Do a quick tidy-up, and if you can, change your bedsheets. Coming home to a clean, fresh-smelling space is the best feeling after a trip. It also helps reduce the post-holiday stress.
Wake-Up Time And Mindset
Waking up 2–3 hours before you need to leave the house can make a world of difference. It gives you space to move slowly, stay organised, and reduces the chances of forgetting something important in a last-minute rush.
Even if you only managed a few hours of sleep, sticking to a simple and calming morning routine can help you feel refreshed and grounded. Lack of sleep can throw your hormones off balance, which can impact your energy, mood, and even digestion. Trust me — having a calm start has completely changed the way I feel on travel days (no more bloating or overwhelm!).
Here are a few easy things you can do to stay calm and centred:
Avoid Your Phone for the First 30–60 Minutes
Give your mind space to wake up without the stress of notifications and social media — this helps lower cortisol (your stress hormone).
Take 3 Deep Breaths
A few intentional breaths help calm your nervous system and centre your mind before a busy day.
Do a Quick Gratitude Check-In
Think of 1–3 things you’re grateful for — this tiny mindset shift helps bring calm even if everything feels a bit chaotic around you.
Light Stretch
This doesn’t need to be a full workout — simply roll your shoulders, stretch your arms, or gently move your neck. It gets your blood flowing and signals to your body that it’s time to wake up (without stress).

Skincare Routine To Reduce Skin Drying From Traveling
Skin drying up during travel days is a real thing, so having a good skincare routine is really important.
I know most people are rushing out the house on travel mornings, but this is exactly why waking up at least 2–3 hours before you leave is a key part of your travel morning routine.
Make time for your skincare so you’re not heading to the plane with dry, neglected skin. And of course — don’t forget your water bottle! Hydration from the inside is just as important for keeping your skin feeling and looking its best.
Two things I recently invested in — and will definitely be taking on future flights — are:
The Biodance Deep Hydrating Face Mask
This mask is incredible. You can actually sleep with it on (it needs to stay on for four hours), and I’m not joking when I say I woke up with the most insane glow. My skin stayed hydrated all day. You can wear it the night before, especially if you’re getting at least 3–4 hours of sleep, or even take it with you and wear it on the plane to rehydrate during your flight.
Tower 28 Face Mist
I’ve seen so many good things about this mist. It’s meant to keep your skin hydrated while flying and also helps prevent breakouts — yes, you can definitely break out from travelling (it’s happened to me before). I haven’t tried this yet on a flight, but once I do, I’ll come back and update this post with my honest review. Just from the reviews alone, though, I had to get it.
Here are a few more things to pop into your travel bag:
- Hand sanitiser
- Lip balm – The Weleda lip balm is honestly the best I’ve ever used. Your lips will stay so hydrated all day.
- Mini moisturiser or face mist (like the Tower 28 Face Mist) – for mid-flight hydration if you don’t want to do a full routine
Trust me, taking 5 minutes for skincare makes a big difference on travel days.
Healthy Breakfast Or Snacks – Tips For Better Digestion

If you’ve got an early morning flight — for example, between 7–9am — and you’re waking up around 2–3am to get to the airport, your usual eating routine can easily be thrown off. But sticking as closely as possible to your normal habits can really help with digestion, energy levels, and avoiding that uncomfortable travel bloat.
Stick to Your Usual Breakfast Timing
If you usually have breakfast around 8am, aim to eat around the same time — even if you’re already at the airport. This helps maintain your body’s natural rhythm and keeps your digestive system calm and balanced.
Eat a Balanced High Protein Dinner the Night Before
When you’re running on little sleep, your hunger hormones (like ghrelin and leptin) are affected, which can lead to cravings for high-carb, sugary foods. To avoid this, have a high-protein, high-fibre dinner the night before to help you stay fuller for longer and support more stable energy levels.
Avoid Sugary or Refined Snacks at the Airport
Grabbing a pastry might seem convenient, but it can spike your blood sugar, making you feel even hungrier, more bloated, and sluggish. Try to avoid quick, processed snacks first thing in the morning — they often make you feel worse, not better.

Stay Hydrated
When you’re tired, it’s easy to mistake thirst for hunger. Drinking enough water before and during your journey can keep you feeling more alert, reduce cravings, and help prevent bloating.
Should You Eat at Home Before You Leave?
If you prefer to eat before leaving the house and have a later morning flight, go for a high-protein breakfast. It will help stabilise your blood sugar levels, keep cravings low, and support better digestion throughout the day. This small step can make a big difference in how you feel while travelling.

Taking Breakfast With You? Here Are a Few Easy Options:
- Boiled eggs
- A small handful of nuts
- Greek yogurt or kefir
- Berries or chopped fruit
- A tuna or chicken sandwich on whole grain sourdough bread
These options are easy to pack, high in protein, and will help keep you full and energised without the sugar crash.
Comfortable Travel Outfit
A comfortable travel outfit is a must — especially for early flights, long queues, or chasing after a toddler through the airport. I always aim for something that’s both practical and stylish, so I feel good while still being ready for a day of travel.
I wanted to share my two go-to travel outfits that I’ve worn multiple times to the airport — they’re comfortable, modest, and still look great in photos. Plus, I’m also including the comfiest trainers I’ve ever owned. I genuinely believe they’re the best for travel days — supportive, stylish, and perfect for long airport walks or running through terminals if needed.
