Hurghada, Egypt Packing List
Healthy & Safety Items
- Basic first aid kit: Include band-aids, antiseptic cream, and any other essentials.
- Insect repellent: We took the most recommended one, but surprisingly didn’t end up using it! While we didn’t get any bites and only saw a few mosquitoes, it’s still highly recommended to bring repellent. Some months have a higher mosquito activity, so it’s better to have it just in case. You can check out this website AccuWeather mosquito forecast to see when mosquitoes are more active, but it’s still worth packing.
- Aloe vera gel: A must for soothing sunburns and heat rashes. I highly recommend you take real aloe vera gel!
- Prescription medications: Along with general medications like cold medicine or pain relievers (e.g., paracetamol) — the strong sunlight can sometimes trigger headaches.
- Hand sanitizer and wipes: Keep your hands and devices clean throughout the trip.
Activity Gear
- Snorkeling gear: Many places offer rentals, but if you prefer your own, it’s worth bringing. We really regret not taking our own because we felt uncomfortable using rental ones that other people used and placed in their mouths
- Lightweight backpack: Perfect for day trips and excursions.
- Beach towel: Ideal for beach days. However, most hotels do provide towels anyways so do double check if your hotel does!
Other Travel Posts You’ll Like:
Essential Clothing
- Light, breathable clothing: Perfect for the hot weather—linen is a great choice.
- Swimwear: Bring 2-3 sets if you’re staying for a week.
- Comfortable walking shoes or sandals: I took trainers for desert activities, and comfortable sandals for sightseeing are a must.
- Modest clothing: Important for cultural sensitivity when visiting religious sites or towns.
Beach And Pool Essentials
- Swimwear: Pack 2-3 pieces for a week-long stay.
- Beach cover-ups or kaftans: Great for poolside or beach lounging.
- Flip-flops or water shoes: Essential for protecting your feet while on the beach.
- Sunscreen (high SPF): Don’t forget sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat. I regretted not bringing a hat, especially during outdoor activities in the sun.
- Reusable water bottle: Staying hydrated is key, especially in Hurghada’s heat. I used the Stanley bottle, which kept my water cool much longer—crucial when temperatures reached 37°C+!
Tech And Accessories
- Phone and charger: Don’t forget a travel adapter for Egypt.
- Phone underwater accessories: I regretted not getting one! It would have been perfect for capturing videos of the fish while snorkeling.
- Waterproof bags: Handy for beach activities or boat trips to keep your electronics safe.
- Portable steamer: We bought a travel steamer just for this trip and it was a game-changer! Our hotel didn’t have an iron, and this steamer worked wonders. Check out this video of how well it performs.
Documents And Money
- Passport and copies: Be sure to have copies of your visa, insurance, and other important documents.
- Hotel and tour confirmations: Keep both physical and digital copies.
- Credit card and local currency (Egyptian pounds): For smaller purchases and tips—Egypt has a tipping culture, so be prepared. I recommend exchanging money in Hurghada for a better rate.
- Travel pouch or secure bag: Essential for protecting your valuables in crowded areas, where pickpocketing can happen.
- Pen: Bring at least two! You’ll need them to fill out landing cards when arriving and departing. On our flight, there were only a couple of pens for all the passengers, so having your own saves time and hassle.
Toiletries And Personal Care
- Travel-sized toiletries: Include shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, or get these travel toiletry bottles.
- Moisturizer and lip balm: The sun can cause dryness, so these are essential.
- Feminine hygiene products: Bring enough for your stay.
- Deodorant and travel-sized perfume: Stay fresh during your trip.
