However, recognizing the significance of self-care and scheduling it into our lives can be transformative, particularly during the summer season when relaxation is essential.
When trying to build a healthy lifestyle, we often focus solely on physical aspects such as exercise and nutrition. While these are undeniably crucial, we must not overlook the importance of nurturing our mental well-being. Self-care offers an effective way to achieve a balance, ensuring that we attend to both our physical and mental needs.
Taking time for self-care is essential for maintaining good mental health. The demands of our daily lives can take a toll on our emotional well-being, leading to stress, anxiety, and burnout. Engaging in self-care activities provides us with an opportunity to reconnect with ourselves, recharge our batteries, and restore our mental balance. It allows us to step away from our normal routines and dedicate time solely to our own needs.
There are various types of self-care that cater to individual preferences and needs. Engaging in hobbies, practicing mindfulness, spending time in nature, journaling, and enjoying moments of solitude are just a few examples of the range of self-care activities you can take up.

1. Embrace The Outdoors
One of the best ways to take care of yourself during the summer is to spend time outdoors. Take advantage of the beautiful sunny weather! Soaking in even 10 – 30 minutes of sun has huge mental health benefits, such as improved mood, and reduced stress.
Engage in some outdoor activities such as taking a walk, going for a picnic, or simply sitting and enjoying the beauty of your surroundings. Engaging in outdoor activities not only provides exercise but also allows you to connect with nature, which has been shown to reduce stress and improve overall well-being.
2. Unplug From Technology
In a world dominated by screens and constant connectivity, it’s essential to unplug and disconnect from technology. Allocate specific times during the day to detach from your devices and engage in activities that promote relaxation and self-reflection. This could include reading a book, journalling, taking a walk, or simply enjoying a quiet moment to yourself.
I do this a lot, especially in the evenings. But I make it a priority during the weekend afternoons/evenings. This allows me time to enjoy some me-time or time with my family. This has helped with my mental health so much as it has helped to reduce stress and anxiety.
3. Prioritise Rest And Relaxation
Summer can be a busy time with vacations and social activities, especially if you have kids then some time for relaxation after a holiday is always needed. Remember to schedule downtime and prioritise rest. Allow yourself to unwind, recharge, and engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation.

4. Stay Hydrated
As temperatures rise, it’s crucial to stay properly hydrated. Dehydration can lead to fatigue, headaches, and decreased cognitive function. Make it a habit to drink plenty of water throughout the day, and if you’re spending time outdoors or exercising, consider carrying a water bottle with you.
If you struggle to drink 2 liters of water a day, which is the recommended daily amount, then one thing I find that helps me drink enough water is by having a cute water bottle! I don’t know what it is, but just carrying a cute water bottle with me just makes me want to keep drinking from it. Weird, I know. But try it, and you’ll see the difference!

5. Morning Routine

6. Summer Skincare Routine
Spend your mornings and evenings looking after your skin. Make sure to choose products that are hydrating to ensure your skin remains hydrated throughout the day and night. This is so important because prolonged sun exposure can lead to dryness of the skin.
