Instagrammable Places In Istanbul
1. Balat Street Istanbul
Balat, a historic neighborhood in Fatih, is home to some of the prettiest streets and most photogenic buildings in Istanbul. Every corner you turn in Balat is picture worthy, with its colorful houses, unique charm, and lively atmosphere. I couldn’t help but admire its beauty, but looking back, I wish I had taken more photos—it’s just that mesmerizing!

One of the highlights of Balat is the famous Rainbow Row of Houses, with one of the most popular spots located at 28-32 Kiremit Caddesi (Kiremit Street). These vibrant homes are a must-see, and you’ll find plenty of opportunities to snap some great photos.

Another iconic spot in Balat is the Colorful Stairs, located near İncir Ağacı Kahvesi, a trendy and hipster café. When we visited, the area was packed with people, making it tricky to get the perfect shot. I highly recommend going early in the morning to beat the crowds and capture this spot in its full glory.

Lastly, don’t miss Umbrella Street, which is actually part of Dimitrie Cantemir Museum Café on Sancaktar Yokuşu Sokak. To take a picture under the vibrant umbrella canopy, you’ll need to make a purchase at the café. We opted for fresh pomegranate juice, which was overpriced, so if you want to save, a simple bottle of water will do.
2. Ortaköy

Ortaköy was hands down my favourite among all the Instagrammable places in Istanbul featured in this blog post. This spot offers an unbeatable view of the stunning Ortaköy Mosque, the iconic Bosphorus Bridge, and the sparkling Bosphorus Strait. It’s a scene straight out of a postcard!
While the exterior of the mosque is breathtaking, don’t miss the chance to step inside—it’s just as magnificent as the outside, with intricate details and serene beauty.
One unique feature of Ortaköy is a man who sells pigeon food and helps you create a magical photo moment with pigeons flying around you against the backdrop of the mosque and Bosphorus. I regret not doing this myself, but it’s something I highly recommend if you want to capture an unforgettable shot.
3. Galata Tower

Galata was another one of my absolute favorites among the Instagrammable places in Istanbul. The view of the iconic Galata Tower as you stroll through the streets is nothing short of magical, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking picture-perfect spots in the city.
One unique offering in this area is a professional photo service where photographers will take stunning shots of you with the Galata Tower as the backdrop for just 200₺. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time for it on this trip, but it’s definitely on my list for when we visit Istanbul again.
A popular way to capture Galata Tower is with the famous San Sebastian cheesecake. Many people head to Viyana Kahvesi for this shot, but I opted for a cozy café nearby called Rose Papillon. It offered one of the best views of the Galata Tower, and I was thrilled with how my pictures turned out.
4. Kadiköy – Umbrella Street

adıköy, located on the Asian side of Istanbul, has a vibe similar to Karaköy or Taksim Square, with its charming cafés, trendy shops, and lively streets. It’s the perfect spot to explore for a mix of modern energy and traditional character.
One specific location I had my heart set on was another Umbrella Street. It took us quite a while to find it, as no one seemed to know what we were talking about! After wandering around and even unknowingly passing it a few times, we finally found it at Ziya Bey Sokak.
If you’re planning to visit, knowing the exact location will save you some valuable time, so you can relax and fully enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Kadıköy. Whether you’re here for the colorful street scenes or to discover its hidden gems, Kadıköy is a must-see when exploring Istanbul’s Asian side.
5. Beylerbeyi Palace

Beylerbeyi Palace is a truly stunning location, both inside and out. While photography is not allowed inside the palace, the exterior offers countless opportunities for beautiful shots. The iconic Beylerbeyi Palace Gate is a perfect spot for photos, and once you step through it, the view only gets more breathtaking.

From here, you’ll see panoramic views of the Bosphorus and the Bosphorus Bridge, making it one of the most scenic spots in Istanbul.
I was completely captivated by the view—it’s one of those places you’ll want to linger and take in. To visit, there is a small entrance fee (around 9-11 pounds per person), but trust me, it’s absolutely worth it for the beauty and history you’ll experience.
6. Sultanahmet Area

The Sultanahmet area is filled with countless cute spots perfect for photos, whether it’s simply enjoying a simit with a cart in the background or capturing the beauty of the historic streets. But what truly makes this area special are the three famous mosques, which provide the most beautiful and iconic photo opportunities in Istanbul.

For me, the most Instagram-worthy spot was inside the Hagia Sophia. The interior is simply magical—its dark, rich tones create an atmosphere that is both serene and awe-inspiring. Every corner offers something stunning, making it impossible to take a bad photo here.
If you’re after the perfect shot of the Hagia Sophia from a distance, I highly recommend visiting Seven Hills Restaurant. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the chance to go, but it’s definitely on our list for our next visit! The panoramic views of the Hagia Sophia and the surrounding area are supposed to be incredible.

Of course, no trip to Sultanahmet would be complete without seeing the Blue Mosque. Even just standing at the entrance, you’ll find that the views are absolutely breathtaking, making it one of the most iconic photo spots in Istanbul. Whether you’re capturing the grandeur of the architecture or soaking in the beauty of the surrounding area, Sultanahmet is a treasure trove of Instagrammable spots.
7. Bosphorous Boat Ride During Sunset/Evening

Whether you choose to take a Bosphorus tour in the morning or evening, you’re guaranteed to witness some of the best views in Istanbul. For us, the evening was particularly magical—especially on our return from Üsküdar, when the sunset painted the sky in vibrant colors. As darkness set in, the city lights began to twinkle, creating a breathtaking scene that made the experience unforgettable.
If you’re planning to take a morning Bosphorus tour, I highly recommend timing your return for sunset or evening. The view of the city from the water, with the illuminated skyline and serene atmosphere, is truly one of the most beautiful ways to end your tour. It’s a perfect moment to capture the essence of Istanbul’s beauty.
