A Sunday night routine doesn’t have to be a lengthy, time-consuming reset. Instead, it can just an hour or two to unwind and gently prepare for the week ahead. After a busy weekend, taking a few mindful steps on Sunday night can facilitate a smooth transition into the upcoming week, helping you avoid overwhelming feelings.
Following a relaxing bedtime routine checklist is essential for alleviating stress, anxiety, and improving sleep quality. Sunday Evening Routine Checklist
1. Set A Relaxing Atmosphere
Dimming the lights, lighting a candle, or diffusing essential oils can work wonders in creating a calming atmosphere that signals to your body it’s time to unwind.
Every night, I turn on just my lamp to create a soft, dim glow in my room, and it instantly brings me a sense of calm. Whether you choose to lower the lights, light a soothing candle, or use your favorite essential oils, these simple actions can transform your space into a peaceful retreat, making you feel instantly calm!
2. Indulge In A Warm Shower/Bath

A warm shower or bath is one of the easiest and most effective ways to unwind on a Sunday night. The heat relaxes tense muscles, eases weekend stress, and signals to your body that it’s time to wind down.
If you choose a bath, adding Epsom salts, a few drops of lavender or eucalyptus essential oils can enhance relaxation. Epsom salts are high in magnesium, which helps soothe sore muscles, while lavender is known for its calming effects.
If you prefer a shower like I do, use a gentle body scrub or your favourite shower gel to make this routine feel like a little self-care treat. Enjoy this time to relax and let the warm water wash away your worries.
3. Skincare Ritual
Make the most of your Sunday night routine by indulging in a complete skincare regimen. Start with cleansing, apply a face mask, and even use a steamer if you’d like. Follow up with moisturizing and a full-body care routine for an extra touch of pampering. If you’re up for it, consider using a jade roller or gua sha to give yourself a soothing facial massage, which can promote lymphatic drainage and leave your skin looking refreshed.
Below, I’ve shared some of my favorite skincare products that will help you achieve a healthy glow using natural and clean ingredients.
4. Wear Your Favourite Pyjamas
Once you’ve enjoyed a refreshing shower and completed your skincare routine, slip into your favourite pyjamas to signal your mind that it’s time to relax. Opt for cozy options that make you feel comfortable, whether it’s a fluffy robe, a soft cotton set, or your beloved oversized t-shirt.
This simple act of changing out of your daytime clothes and into something comfortable can greatly enhance your transition into relaxation mode, helping you unwind and prepare for a restful night.
5. Stretch Or Gentle Yoga
Incorporating a quick 5-10 minute stretch into your evening routine works wonders for your body. Not only does it promote better sleep, but it’s also incredibly beneficial if you’ve been working out all week. Stretching helps release physical tension in your muscles, making it easier to return to your workouts in the new week.
One of my absolute favourite stretches is this 10-minute floor routine, which calms me down and leaves me feeling amazing afterward. Give it a try—you’ll love how good it makes you feel!
6. No Screens 1 Hour Before Bed

Making a habit of disconnecting from screens every evening is essential for promoting better sleep. Avoiding TVs, phones, and laptops at least an hour before bed can help lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and enable you to fall asleep faster and enjoy deeper rest.
If you like to watch TV before bed, like I do, plan your viewing time so you can turn off the screen an hour before sleep. For example, I turn off the TV at 9 PM to prepare for bed by 10 PM. During that hour, you can engage in the following activities listed below to enhance your Sunday night routine and set yourself up for a restful night’s sleep.
7. Set Goals For The Week
One of my favourite tasks in my Sunday night routine is setting myself up mentally for the week ahead. It doesn’t have to be an intense process—simply choose 2-3 goals for the upcoming week. Having clear objectives gives you a sense of direction and can significantly enhance your productivity.
In my goal planner, there’s a dedicated weekly goal-setting page that not only helps you establish your weekly goals but also allows you to track healthy habits to keep yourself accountable. This simple practice can make your week much more successful and fulfilling!

8. Prepare Your Monday Essentials
To make Monday morning smoother, take a few minutes on Sunday night to prepare your essentials. Picking out your outfit, packing a bag, or organizing anything you (or your children) might need for school or work can make a huge difference in how the day begins.
By doing this ahead of time, you’ll cut down on the Monday morning rush and give yourself extra time to enjoy a morning routine that sets a positive tone for the week. This simple step can help you start the day with calm and focus, allowing you to approach Monday with a refreshed mindset.
9. 5 Minute Deep Breathing Exercise
I highly recommend incorporating this step, especially if you often experience stress and anxiety. A quick 5-minute deep breathing exercise can work wonders for calming your nervous system, not only improving your sleep quality but also lowering your stress levels—perfect for easing those Sunday scaries.
One of my absolute favorite techniques is this 5-minute deep breathing exercise to relieve stress. Trust me, once you give it a try, you’ll feel absolutely amazing!
10. Gratitude Journaling
Ending your Sunday night with a gratitude reflection is a powerful way to shift into a positive mindset for the week ahead. Take a few quiet moments to reflect on the past week and note a few things you’re grateful for—big or small. Focusing on these moments can bring a sense of calm and fulfillment, making it easier to start the week on a positive note.
If you enjoy structured reflections, you might love my gratitude journal, which includes an evening gratitude section to help you close out each day mindfully. There’s also a dedicated page for end-of-week reflections, so you can look back on your wins, growth, and memorable moments before setting intentions for the new week.
