Discover 10 rejuvenating self care ideas for mums amidst the chaos of motherhood. Prioritize your well-being with these practical tips designed just for you.
Raise your hand if you’re a mum who always prioritizes everyone else’s needs above your own. Guilty as charged, right? It’s ingrained in us to ensure everyone else is taken care of before even considering our own well-being. And while there’s no denying the importance of caring for our loved ones, I came to a realization: neglecting self-care wasn’t making me the best mum I could be.
Our families rely on us to be at our best, but how can we pour from an empty cup? It became clear that by filling our own cups first, we’re better equipped to give our families the love and support they need. When I started focusing on self-care, I started to feel like I was truly giving my family the happiest version of myself, and in turn, they thrived too.
As mothers, we’re powerful influencers, and when we prioritize our well-being, our families follow us. That’s why I’m excited to share 10 unique self-care ideas tailored specifically for busy mums like you. Remember, self-care isn’t selfish—it’s the ultimate gift you can give to your loved ones.
Pick at least two of these simple self care ideas from the list and share your experience in the comments below. I hope these suggestions help you feel empowered to prioritize yourself and recognize that you deserve to come first!

Self Care Ideas For Mums
Simple Self Care Ideas For Busy Mums
1. Morning Mindfulness
When you start your day, your immediate focus is tending to your children, whether it’s preparing them for school or simply helping them begin their day with breakfast. Amidst this hustle, finding a moment for yourself seems nearly impossible. That’s why I suggest embracing morning mindfulness as your first self-care ritual.
Consider waking up just 30 minutes earlier than your children or having your partner take over their morning routine occasionally. Allocate this time for yourself at least 2-3 times a week. I understand the temptation to sleep in, but prioritizing this quiet time can truly rejuvenate you.
During these precious moments, indulge in a slow, mindful morning routine. Take your time with every step, from skincare to a brief stretch to awaken your body and mind. Then, savor a nutritious breakfast alongside a comforting cup of coffee. This is your opportunity to relish 30 minutes of peace and tranquility before diving into the demands of the day.
2. Create A Self Care Jar
Create a self-care jar by jotting down simple self-care activities on small pieces of paper. Include activities that you can easily do, even when life gets chaotic.
Whenever you feel overwhelmed or find a spare moment, simply pick a slip from the jar and carry out the activity written on it. This way, instead of pondering what self-care practice to engage in, you can effortlessly select one and give yourself the care you need without any extra hassle.
3. Nature Walks With The Kids
If your child is anything like mine, they’re likely glued to you around the clock, craving your constant attention. My little one rarely entertains herself; she always wants me by her side. However, I’ve found that taking a stroll in the park or simply going for a walk while she’s comfortably seated in her pram not only ensures she gets some fresh air but also allows me to recharge.
Stepping outside helps clear my mind and boosts both my physical and mental well-being. So, when things start to feel overwhelming, change into something comfortable and head out for a walk, even if it’s just for 20 minutes. You’ll be amazed at how refreshed you feel when you return home!
4. DIY Spa Night
Allocate one evening every week to unwind and treat yourself to a cozy at-home DIY spa night. It doesn’t have to be extravagant; simplicity works wonders. Here’s a basic routine you can follow:
- Soak in a warm bubble bath
- Apply a refreshing face mask
- Follow your skincare routine
- Slip into comfy, adorable pajamas
- Snuggle up in bed with some softly glowing candles and a captivating book!
Here are a few essentials for your at-home spa experience:
Rose Face Mask (this brand is insane!!)
Steel Gua Sha (the BEST)
5. Journalling Prompts
Taking a moment to sit down and jot down your thoughts and feelings can be incredibly therapeutic, especially for busy mums who often feel overwhelmed and overstimulated. Sometimes, we might not have someone to talk to, or we fear being judged for expressing our feelings because of societal expectations. Writing them down can provide a safe space to unload our minds and sort through our thoughts.
Here are some prompts you can use:
- What are three things I’m grateful for today?
- Describe a moment today that brought me joy.
- How did I show kindness to myself or others today?
- Reflect on a challenge I faced today and how I overcame it.
- Write down something I’m proud of accomplishing today.
- What is something I’m looking forward to tomorrow?
Additionally, if you’re interested in starting gratitude journaling, I’ve created my own gratitude journal. It spans four months and includes weekly challenges focused on self-care. It also features a reflection page each week to help you review the past week and jot down your feelings. It’s a wonderful tool to support your journey of self-care and personal growth.

6. Mindful Meal Prep
Meal prepping is a lifesaver for busy individuals, especially for mums juggling multiple responsibilities. To enhance this routine, consider mindful meal prep. Engage your children in meal prep activities like mixing, washing, and possibly cutting (if they’re capable). Not only does this teach them valuable skills, but it also fosters mindful connection and meaningful conversations.
By involving your kids in meal prep, you’ll find it less stressful than trying to entertain them while getting tasks done. This principle applies to other household chores as well. For instance, I like to practice what I call ‘mindful laundry.’ I get my little one’s help in putting clothes out to dry and folding the dried ones, passing them to me as we work together. It not only gets the job done but also strengthens our bond through shared activities.
7. Digital Detox
I’m sure I’m not alone in this, but do you ever notice that whenever our kids are occupied with something else, like watching TV or when they’re finally asleep, our default action is to grab our phones?
Instead, consider setting aside some time in the evening or whenever you have a moment to spare for a quieter activity. Whether it’s reading a book, practicing a hobby, or anything else that helps you unwind, it can be a much-needed break from screen time.
8. Gratitude Jar
Here’s another simple method to cultivate gratitude daily if you find journaling too much. It involves incorporating daily self-care by jotting down one thing you’re grateful for on a piece of paper each day and adding it to a jar. Then, at the end of the week or month, you can revisit these notes for a mood-lifting reminder of the positives in your life!
9. Solo Dates
Taking care of children while going out can be exhausting and overwhelming. That’s why planning a solo date once in a while is a wonderful form of self-care. It gives you the opportunity to unwind and indulge in something you enjoy in peace.
Whether it’s grabbing a coffee and cake, going shopping, or treating yourself to a manicure, the choice is yours. Spending time alone can be incredibly rejuvenating, and as mums, we sometimes need those moments to reconnect with activities we used to enjoy on our own.
10. Sleeping In
I saved this suggestion for last because I understand it’s not always possible, but aiming to take at least one day each week to sleep in, even if it’s just for an extra 30 minutes, can work wonders. This extra rest can significantly reduce stress levels and leave you feeling wonderfully refreshed and revitalized.
