I’ve been there—I used to weigh myself daily, thinking I wasn’t making progress. However, when I shifted my focus and measured success differently, I began to notice positive changes. Old clothes that didn’t fit for a while not only fit but were now too big, and people started noticing my weight loss.
Achieving progress comes in various forms, and sometimes the scale might not accurately reflect it. By shifting your focus to alternative measures of success, you’ll likely realize that you are indeed making significant progress in your weight loss journey.

Many people tend to under-eat when trying to lose weight – believe me, I’ve been there. I used to put minimal food on my plate, often feeling hungry. - Smoothies and juices: Liquid calories can add up fast.
- Healthy fats: Important, but excessive consumption can impede weight loss.
I highly recommend tracking your calories accurately at the beginning of your journey (learn how to calculate them correctly to avoid confusion between under or overeating). Focus on your macros, ensuring you’re getting the right amounts of fats, carbs, and protein to aid in weight loss. You don’t need to track calories indefinitely—try it for a month or two until you grasp how much your body needs to lose weight or until your goal shifts (e.g., muscle gain). At that point, you can resume tracking calories to align with your new objectives.
For tracking, consider using an app like MyFitnessPal—it’s the one I used at the beginning of my journey. It helps estimate the calories you should eat based on your weight goal. While there might be other excellent calorie-tracking apps, MyFitnessPal is definitely a user-friendly choice.
