Before I show you some of the best winter coats, I wanted to go through some FAQs when it comes to choosing the right winter coat.

When Should I Buy A Winter Coat?
We always have this question – when is the right time to buy anything? The weather is a little confusing at the moment, in the morning it is freezing and by the afternoon it’s warm so a winter coat just wouldn’t make sense right now, right? However, getting your winter coats as early as possible is so important if you are trying to find not only practical winter coats but also cute ones that will give you the perfect finish to all your outfits.
There are so many coats available right now which means that this is the time to get your hands on some before they all go! I can’t remember the number of times I decided to wait before buying something and next thing I know, it was gone. So don’t sit on it and start browsing before they replace them with the next season’s essentials (which they do before the season begins)!
How Many Coats Should A Woman Have?
Having two or three different styles or even colours is the perfect amount of winter coats to have. There are different coat lengths and styles too. This gives you the chance to change up your look. So if you are going to buy more than one, which I recommend, then make sure they are either different colours or different styles/lengths. I have four winter coats – three wool coats that are three different colours as I am more of a wool coat kinda gal and one puffer jacket. This may seem like a lot of coats to some people but it allows me the flexibility to wear as many of my outfits as they all go with different styles of outfits.
Should You Buy A Coat A Size Bigger?
This depends on the coat – If the coat is oversized then it is best to stick to your size. However, you should always buy a coat a size bigger. This allows room for your knitwear! You don’t want a coat that fits you perfectly and when you wear a knit jumper it just ends up not fitting you.
Also, I found with winter coats, if you buy your exact size it just ends up looking too tight and small on you even if it’s your size. So make sure you size up with winter coats!
What Is The Best Colour For A Winter Coat?
Some people love buying bright-coloured coats for winter which is fine – everyone has different styles. I wish I was that brave. But to answer the question, I think the best colours for a winter coat are neutral, black, grey and all the dark colours (yes even dark green!). Dark colours and neutrals are the perfect colours for the winter – this is why in autumn and winter you’ll see people wearing mainly dark colours but in the spring and summer, everyone starts to pull out their bright colours.
