Discover the transformative power of self-care Sundays to nurture your mind, body, and soul.
In our fast-paced and hectic lives, finding time for self-care can often be the last thing on our minds, especially if you are a parent juggling multiple responsibilities. However, prioritizing self-care is crucial for recharging and looking after your mental well-being. After I had my little one, I struggled to put myself first and this affected my mental health significantly.
I started incorporating self-care activities every day such as a morning routine and night routine and dedicating Sundays to be my day of self-care. This is why I wanted to write this blog post on self-care Sunday ideas to help nourish your mind, body, and soul.
If you struggle to make self-care a priority, consider scheduling at least one day dedicated to nourishing your mind, body, and soul. It may seem like a small change, but it can make a significant difference to your mental well-being, mood, and overall energy levels.
Imagine setting aside a few hours every Sunday, the perfect day for a self-care routine. By dedicating this time to yourself, you allow your mind and body to recharge, preparing you for the week ahead. Even if it’s just a couple of hours, it can have a profound impact on your well-being.
By consciously making self-care a priority, you are taking an active step towards nurturing yourself and ensuring your overall well-being. It’s not just about pampering or indulging; it’s about recognizing the importance of self-care for your mental and emotional health.
This post is all about self-care Sundays to help nourish your mind, body, and soul.
Self-Care Sundays
The Importance Of Self-Care
Self-care is not a luxury but a necessity for overall well-being. Allocating a day dedicated to self-care allows you to honor your needs, practice self-compassion, and invest in your own happiness and fulfillment. Here are a few ways self-care is important:
- Replenishing Energy: A day dedicated to self-care allows you to recharge and replenish your physical, mental, and emotional energy.
- Prioritizing Self: In our busy lives, it’s easy to neglect our own needs and put others’ priorities ahead of our own. Especially when you are a parent. Allocating a day of self-care is a deliberate act of prioritizing yourself.
- Enhancing Overall Well-being: Self-care is essential for maintaining and enhancing your overall well-being. By engaging in activities that nourish your mind, body, and soul, you can improve your mental health, physical health, and emotional resilience.
- Reducing Stress and Enhancing Resilience: Engaging in self-care activities helps to reduce stress and promote resilience. Taking time to relax, engage in hobbies, practice mindfulness, or engage in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment can lower stress levels and improve your ability to cope with challenges.
Self-Care Sunday Ideas For Your Mind, Body, And Soul
1. Nourishing Your Mind
Self-care Sunday is the perfect opportunity to give your mind the attention it deserves. Here are some ideas to nourish your mind:
Read a book
Getting lost in a good book can help reduce stress. It offers a mental break, relaxation, and a chance to unwind, reducing anxiety and promoting a sense of calm.
Depending on the book you are reading, it is also a great way to expand your knowledge in an area you want to expand on. Two of my favourite personal development books are Atomic Habits by James Clear (teaches you how to break bad habits and stick to healthy good habits through small, incremental habits) and Rich Dad Poor Day by Robert Kiyosaki (educating readers in financial literacy and challenging conventional thinking).
Breathing Exercises
Focusing on your breath and engaging in intentional breathing exercises can help calm your mind during times when you are feeling the most overwhelmed and anxious. By directing your attention to the breath, you create a sense of present-moment awareness, which can quiet the mind and promote a state of relaxation.
This is perfect to do on Sundays, even if it is just for a minute because it is usually a day we are all feeling overwhelmed or anxious as the new work week starts.
This is what I do: I place one hand on my chest and the other in the center of my stomach to really focus on breathing. I then inhale slowly and then exhale slowly and really focus on my breathing with a clear mind in a quiet room.
Practice Gratitude
I do this every morning, but it is a great addition to your self-care Sunday routine. As I have mentioned before, Sundays are usually the day majority of people feel the most overwhelmed or in a bad mood because the new work week is starting. So, expressing gratitude activates the brain’s reward center and ‘happy’ hormones such as dopamine and serotonin, which are associated with feelings of happiness and well-being. Regularly practicing gratitude can contribute to a more positive and joyful state of mind.
Gratitude also directs your attention away from negative thoughts, worries, or stressors, and instead redirects it towards acknowledging and appreciating the positive aspects of your life. This shift in focus can help break negative thought patterns and cultivate a more optimistic and positive mindset.
2. Caring For Your Body
10-Minute Stretch
Sundays are the perfect day to have a rest day from exercising and just focusing on doing a 10-minute stretch is an amazing way to reward your body and promote stress relief and relaxation.
Stretching can be a mindful and calming practice that promotes stress relief and relaxation. It provides an opportunity to focus on your body, breathe deeply, and release tension. Stretching can help reduce feelings of anxiety and promote a sense of well-being by triggering the release of endorphins, the body’s natural “feel-good” hormones.
If Sundays are not your rest days and you would rather workout then that is another way to care for your body! Working out will also release endorphins. Either way, include some sort of movement in your self-care Sunday activities.
Nourishing Breakfast
Breakfast is often referred to as the most important meal of the day because it replenishes your body with the energy and nutrients it needs after an overnight fast. A healthy breakfast provides the necessary fuel to kickstart your metabolism, support brain function, and sustain your physical and mental energy levels throughout the day.
This is a form of self-care for your body that you need to be doing every day, but because of its importance, I wanted to add it as an idea for your self-care Sundays.

Skincare Routine
Doing your skincare is another form of self-care that should be done every single day. But I noticed that during weekdays we can be doing our skincare in a rush because we are either very busy rushing to go to work or some of us, like myself, have children demanding our attention.
So dedicate Sunday mornings and evenings where you spend time just doing your skincare in a calming environment. Taking the time to care for your skin can be a mindful self-care ritual. It allows you to slow down, be present in the moment, and connect with your body. The act of applying skincare products, gently massaging them into the skin, and focusing on self-care can create a sense of relaxation, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being.
3. Nurturing Your Soul
Create A Calm Environment
A calm environment is ideal for practicing mindfulness. By minimizing distractions and creating a peaceful setting, you can focus your attention on the present moment, fully experiencing and appreciating the here and now. This can lead to a greater sense of clarity, calmness, and a deeper connection with yourself. One way I like to do this is by lighting a candle whilst I read a book or after I have finished cleaning to relax.
Spend Time In Nature
Spending time in nature could be taking a walk in a park or simply enjoying the beauty of your surroundings. This is amazing to add to your Sunday self-care routine because nature has a calming effect on our minds and bodies, which in my opinion is needed on a Sunday.
Being surrounded by greenery, fresh air, and natural sounds can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and promote relaxation. It offers a break from the constant stimulation of technology and urban environments, allowing you to recharge and restore your energy. So this is the perfect activity to add to your self-care Sundays!
I sometimes go out with my husband and daughter and read a book in the park whilst he plays with her and this is my way of nurturing both my mind and soul.
Connect With Loved Ones
Spending time with loved ones often brings about joy and laughter. Engaging in shared activities, reminiscing about cherished memories, or simply enjoying each other’s company can uplift our spirits and bring happiness. Laughter and joy have a significant impact on our well-being, promoting positive emotions and enhancing our overall sense of fulfillment. So put your phones away and enjoy each other’s presence.
I hope these self-care Sunday ideas help you relax and prepare for the week ahead, as much as they have helped me!
