I’ve personally experimented with these habits and found them instrumental in achieving my own goals, whether they be personal, physical, or mental. Today, I’m excited to share with you 7 common habits of successful people that have made a profound impact on my journey.
Starting on the path to change can feel daunting, especially when faced with multiple new habits to incorporate. However, I’ve learned that taking it one step at a time is key. Begin with just one habit and gradually work your way up.
Eventually, you’ll look back and realize how far you’ve come from that initial feeling of overwhelm.
In this blog post, I’ll not only reveal the 7 top habits of successful people, but I’ll also recommend some personal development books that have guided me on my journey to becoming the best version of myself.

1. Morning Habits Of Successful People
Every successful person knows the importance of starting their day on the right foot. The key? A morning routine filled with healthy habits. I stumbled upon this insight in one of my favourite books, Manifest, and it completely changed my perspective.
Although I had been following a morning routine for some time, I hadn’t realized how crucial those small habits were to my productivity and success. As the book points out, “our habits become our foundation, and when we change our habits, we change our life.”
She gives examples of two scenarios: one person follows a morning routine, while the other simply rolls out of bed, grabs their phone, and dives into the day. The difference? The person with the morning routine starts their day positively, setting themselves up for success.
John C. Maxwell once said, “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” So, if you’re looking to change your life, start by adopting morning habits of successful people.
Here’s examples of what that might look like:
- Early Rise: Successful individuals often wake up early to prepare for the day ahead (at least 30 minutes – 1 hour than they usually wake up), setting a calm and purposeful tone.
- Mindfulness: Incorporating mindfulness practices (e.g. breathing exercises) clears the mind, reduces stress, and enhances focus.
- Exercise: Morning workouts boost energy levels, mood, and overall health, paving the way for a positive day.
- Healthy Breakfast: Fueling your body with a nutritious breakfast consisting of whole foods sustains energy and mental clarity.
- Reviewing Goals: Reviewing goals and planning the day sets clear intentions and priorities for success.
- Reading or Learning: Engaging in personal or professional development activities fosters growth and knowledge acquisition. For example, reading a personal development book or listening to a podcast.
- Gratitude Practice: Writing and reflecting on blessings cultivates a mindset of abundance and appreciation.
- Mindful Tech Use: Delaying screen time allows for more meaningful activities and less distraction. It is recommended to go phone-free for the first 30 minutes to 1 hour in the morning.

2. Setting Clear Goals
Simply sitting down and writing down your goals isn’t enough if those goals aren’t crystal clear. In the book “Manifest” (seriously, it’s a gem!), she explains how to set clear goals brilliantly. This is a very important habit of every successful person as it provides direction and purpose.

This enables you to accomplish tasks more efficiently and effectively, leading to greater productivity in all areas of your life.
Prioritizing health isn’t just about hitting the gym; it’s also about adopting habits that promote overall well-being, including stress management and healthy eating habits.

Consistency is the secret to success. High achievers stick to disciplined routines, whether it’s in their work, exercise, or personal growth. They know that progress comes from steady, consistent effort over time.
How many times have you felt unmotivated or stuck, leading to procrastination and derailment from your goals?
Successful people understand this struggle but choose discipline and consistency. They commit to small daily tasks that contribute to their larger goals.
For instance, if you aim to improve your physical health, skipping workouts on low-energy days isn’t an option. Some days, you may only give 30% or 50%, and that’s okay. Because even 5% is better than 0%.
What matters most is staying consistent and disciplined. It’s the steady effort, not bursts of energy, that yields the desired results in the long run.
6. Resilience When Faced With Set Backs
Success is not a smooth ride. Those who thrive embrace challenges and setbacks as chances for growth. They keep a positive outlook, learn from failures, and persevere through tough times.
One of my favorite methods for staying positive during setbacks is through gratitude journaling and reading positive affirmations.
Gratitude journaling prompts you to focus on the good, even amidst difficulty. By acknowledging what you’re thankful for, they shift from dwelling on setbacks to appreciating the blessings and opportunities in your lives.
Affirmations are simple statements that reinforce positive beliefs about oneself and one’s capabilities. When faced with setbacks, reciting affirmations like “I am resilient,” “I overcome challenges easily,” or “I grow stronger with every obstacle” boosts confidence and optimism.
7. Effective Time Management
Since learning how to manage my time effectively, I’ve noticed a significant improvement not only in my productivity and organization but also in the results I’m achieving with my goals!
Time is precious, and successful people understand the value of using it wisely. They prioritize tasks based on importance and urgency, delegate when necessary, and steer clear of procrastination.
By mastering time management, they enhance productivity and accomplish more in less time.
Here are some of my top time management tips:
- Invest in a planner, preferably one that incorporates time blocking, like the one available HERE.
- Limit yourself to 3-5 tasks per day to prevent overwhelm and ensure completion.
- Embrace time blocking! Treat your tasks like appointments by scheduling specific time slots for them. For example, instead of simply jotting down “workout” in your planner, schedule it as a concrete appointment, such as “8:00 am – 8:30 am: Workout.” This creates a sense of commitment and increases the likelihood of follow-through.
