What Is A Glow Up Challenge?
A “glow up challenge” is all about people working to make positive changes in their lives. It often focuses on improving physical health/appearance, mental well-being, personal growth, and boosting confidence. The term “glow up” refers to a transformation in both appearance and lifestyle.
This 30-day glow up challenge isn’t just about transforming your appearance—it’s about enhancing your mental, physical, and emotional well-being too.
Divided into four categories—physical health, mental well-being, confidence, and self-care and happiness—this challenge covers all the bases to give you a complete glow up.
But remember, this isn’t a one-time thing. It’s about adopting these activities for the long haul. The 30 days are meant to kickstart new habits that can change your life for the better.

Glow Up Challenge List For Physical Health
1. Make Time For Exercise
Begin by creating a workout routine. Aim for 20-30 minutes of exercise at least five times a week. Choose activities that you genuinely enjoy, whether it’s following walking exercises on YouTube, trying out dance workouts, engaging in strength training, or simply taking a leisurely walk or swimming. The key is to find something that brings you joy and keeps you moving.

2. Build Healthy Eating Habits
Prioritize whole, nutrient-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, proteins, and whole grains in your diet.
Make meal prep a part of your routine for the week to ensure you have healthy options readily available and avoid resorting to fast food or unhealthy snacks.
Meal planning and prepping have been game-changers for me. Planning my meals during the weekend and grocery shopping with a focus on the necessary ingredients have helped me stick to healthy eating habits. This way, I wake up each day knowing exactly what to eat.
For meals, I often prepare extra food during dinner and enjoy the leftovers for lunch the next day. This approach is especially helpful for me as a busy working stay-at-home mom, as it saves time and energy, ensuring I have nutritious meals ready to go.

3. Increase Your Water In Take
Staying hydrated is crucial for your glow-up journey—it’s not only essential for your physical health but also for your mental well-being.
Aim to drink at least 2 liters of water a day, and consider incorporating hydrating alternatives like herbal teas.
I highly recommend carrying a reusable water bottle with you, especially one with a straw like the one HERE that I use. It keeps my water cool, and sipping through a straw makes staying hydrated effortless. This simple habit has significantly boosted my water intake.
Drinking enough water comes with numerous benefits, including radiant skin, a stronger immune system, increased energy levels, improved organ function, better digestion, and much more.

4. Improve Sleep Quality
I understand that getting enough sleep can be a significant challenge, especially for parents with babies or toddlers who struggle to sleep (like mine). However, prioritizing improving your sleep quality is essential for your glow-up journey.
Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night, and you can achieve this by establishing a relaxing bedtime routine. Consider activities such as reading, gentle stretching, avoiding screens at least an hour before bed, and indulging in a soothing warm shower or bath. This will all help you sleep earlier and achieve 7-9 hours of sleep!
Quality sleep is crucial for your body’s recovery, boosting immunity, and enhancing your mood and energy levels. With better sleep, you’ll wake up feeling refreshed each day, ready to tackle whatever comes your way with renewed vigor.

5. Reduce Caffeine Intake
Cutting back on caffeine can be a game-changer for enhancing your sleep quality, which is a key aspect of the glow-up challenge outlined in this blog post. But here’s something you might not know: consuming excessive caffeine can actually increase your cortisol (stress) levels and harm your overall health. Moreover, it can mess with your hydration because caffeinated drinks like coffee and tea can increase urine production, leading to dehydration.
To stay better hydrated and maintain a healthy balance, consider reducing your caffeine intake to just one cup of your favourite caffeinated drink per day. This simple adjustment can make a big difference in your overall well-being.
6. Limit Sugar Intake
As part of your 30 day glow up challenge, consider taking on the task of reducing your consumption of added sugars for a specific period, whether it’s a week or a month. Swap out sugary drinks, desserts packed with refined sugars, and processed foods for healthier choices like fresh fruits, unsweetened drinks such as plain coffee or tea, and homemade snacks.
If you’re looking for tasty alternatives without refined sugars, check out the healthy snack recipes available on my blog HERE. These recipes will satisfy your sweet tooth without compromising your health goals.
7. Focus On Strength Training
Strength training is a powerhouse for your physical well-being, offering long-term benefits. As we grow older, especially after hitting 30, we tend to lose muscle mass, which leads to a decline in strength and cause weakness. By integrating strength training exercises into your fitness routine, you’re not only building muscle but also enhancing overall strength, ensuring you stay robust and fit as you age.
But that’s not all—strength training also increases your metabolism and torches calories more effectively than cardio, even when you’re at rest. Plus, it’s a great way to ward off injuries as you get older.
Glow Up Challenge For Mental Well-Being
8. Gratitude Journalling
Start a daily gratitude journaling habit by jotting down three things you’re thankful for each day. This simple practice can work wonders for your mindset, shifting it towards positivity, boosting resilience in the face of challenges, and elevating your overall well-being.
To make it even easier, I’ve created a 4-month gratitude journal that includes morning and night gratitude prompts, along with a weekly reflection page to help you track your mental health progress. Additionally, I’ve incorporated weekly challenges focusing on self-care and healthy habits to elevate your glow-up journey. For more details about my gratitude journal, check out my blog post below, titled benefits of gratitude journalling.

9. Reading Positive Affirmations
Create a list of positive affirmations that truly resonate with you, and make it a daily ritual to repeat them. This simple practice is incredibly powerful, as it reinforces self-belief and confidence. Positive affirmations serve to rewire negative thought patterns, elevate self-esteem, and cultivate a more optimistic outlook on life.
Incorporating these affirmations into both your morning and evening routines can work wonders. They help alleviate stress and anxiety, boost confidence, and bring about a positive shift in your mindset. Personally, adding affirmations into my daily life has significantly reduced my anxiety and helped me toward achieving my goals. Instead of doubting my capabilities, I now focus on believing that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.
If you’re looking for inspiration, I’ve shared over 40 positive affirmations in two of my blog posts, which you can explore below. These affirmations can serve as powerful tools on your journey to self-improvement and empowerment.

10. Digital Detox
Give yourself a breather from electronic devices and social media for a designated period, whether it’s a weekend or a few hours in the morning and night. Taking this digital detox can work wonders for your well-being by alleviating feelings of overwhelm, enhancing sleep quality, and fostering deeper connections with yourself and those around you.
Moreover, excessive screen time, including constant news consumption and social media scrolling, can take a toll on your mental health. It may amplify feelings of insecurity, stress, and ingratitude. To prevent this, consider adding regular digital detox days, perhaps once a week.
Additionally, try going phone-free for 30 minutes to an hour in the morning and again before bedtime to further improve sleep quality. These simple adjustments can make a significant difference in your overall well-being.
11. Limiting Negative Self-Talk
Limiting negative self-talk is a crucial aspect of the glow-up challenge, especially for enhancing mental well-being. This practice directly tackles how we perceive ourselves and the world around us. Negative self-talk often involves catastrophic thoughts, dwelling on past mistakes, or anticipating future failures.
These patterns of thinking can fuel stress and anxiety, trapping us in a cycle of worry and fear. By challenging negative self-talk, we can break free from this cycle and cultivate a more balanced and realistic perspective, ultimately reducing overall stress and anxiety levels.
One effective strategy to combat negative self-talk is by incorporating more positive affirmations into your daily routine, as mentioned earlier. Personally, whenever I catch myself engaging in negative self-talk, I counter it with a positive affirmation that contradicts the negativity.
For example, if I find myself thinking, “This is too hard, I can’t do it because I lack the skills,” I remind myself: “I am capable of learning and growing. Every challenge I encounter is an opportunity for me to develop new skills and abilities.” This simple shift in mindset can have a profound impact on how we perceive ourselves and our capabilities.
12. Nature Therapy
Make it a habit to spend time in nature regularly, whether it’s strolling through a park, or just unwinding in your backyard. Connecting with nature has remarkable benefits—it can lower stress levels, create a sense of tranquility, and boost overall mental well-being.
Moreover, spending time in nature is a fantastic way to enhance your physical health. Taking a walk outdoors, for instance, is a form of physical activity that contributes to your overall well-being. So, embrace the outdoors and let nature work its wonders on your mind and body.
13. Colouring/Art Therapy
If you’ve got a creative side, colouring or art therapy can be a wonderful way to nurture your mind. Set aside time every day, or even just once a week, to dive into coloring books or other art activities. It’s a beautiful form of self-expression and relaxation.
Engaging in art therapy can work wonders—it’s known to alleviate stress, foster mindfulness, and enhance emotional well-being. Personally, when I was pregnant, this was my go-to method for maintaining my mental health. It was my absolute favourite way to unwind and find calmness during that time.
14. Create A Morning And Night Routine
When I had my little girl, my mental health hit rock bottom, and establishing morning and night routines became my saving grace in overcoming those challenges. Out of all the suggestions in this glow-up challenge, creating a morning and night routine stands out as my absolute favourite.
A morning routine sets the tone for your day, ensuring you kickstart it on the right foot. Starting your day positively and productively often leads to a more fulfilling day ahead. Similarly, a night routine is aimed towards winding down, recharging, and alleviating stress, preparing your mind and body for the upcoming day.

15. Set Boundaries
Learn to decline commitments or activities that drain your energy or cause undue stress, especially if they add to your existing workload. I used to struggle with this, but now I prioritize saying no and concentrate on essential tasks, avoiding unnecessary stress.
Setting boundaries enables you to prioritize your well-being, ensuring that you safeguard your mental health by steering clear of stressors.
Glow Up Challenge For Confidence
16. Step Out Your Comfort Zone
A simple yet effective strategy is to reflect on your goals and pinpoint what you truly want to achieve. Then, consider something that intimidates you but will get you closer to reaching that goal. Stepping out of your comfort zone is key; it instantly boosts confidence and encourages you to tackle more challenges head-on.
For instance, if your goal is to improve your physical fitness by hitting the gym this year, take the leap and invest in some comfortable sportswear. Once you step into the gym, you’ll notice a surge in confidence, and soon enough, what once seemed daunting will feel like second nature.
17. Body Positive Affirmations
Just as practicing positive affirmations in the morning and at night can uplift your mental well-being, incorporating affirmations that celebrate your body can cultivate self-love and confidence. Challenge any negative body image thoughts by replacing them with affirmations highlighting your strengths, beauty, and uniqueness. Embracing your body and acknowledging all it does for you can profoundly boost confidence and self-esteem.
Here are five examples:
- “My body is strong, resilient, and capable of amazing things.”
- “I embrace my body as it is, celebrating its unique shape and beauty.”
- “I nourish my body with love, kindness, and healthy choices.”
- “I am more than my appearance; my worth is not defined by my size or shape.”
- “I appreciate all that my body does for me, from breathing to moving to experiencing the world around me.”
This practice made a significant difference for me, especially after having my little girl, when I often felt insecure about my body. However, once I began expressing gratitude for what my body had endured and recognizing its strength, my confidence increased.
18. Improve On A Skill
Set yourself a goal to learn new skills or enhance existing ones that align with your main goals. Whether it’s mastering a new language, or delving into marketing strategies to elevate your business, learning new skills can increase the feelings of competence and self-assurance.
19. Celebrate Achievements
Take the time to celebrate your successes and recognize your progress, no matter how small it may seem. Whether you write it down, think about it, verbalize it, or share it with a loved one, make sure to acknowledge and praise yourself for how far you’ve come.
It’s easy to get caught up in focusing solely on the big goal, overlooking the little progress we achieve every day that ultimately contribute to reaching that larger goal. By reflecting on your accomplishments, you’ll find that it boosts your self-confidence and reinforces a positive self-image.
20. Physical Challenge
Establish a fitness goal that pushes your boundaries, aiming to enhance your physical strength and endurance. Whether it’s experimenting with a new workout routine you’ve never tried before or completing a rigorous strength training program, conquering a physical challenge can foster a profound sense of achievement and confidence in your capabilities.
21. Visualisation Exercise
Take a few moments to envision yourself thriving in a specific goal or scenario (you can do this every day or once a week), whether it’s acing a job interview, launching a business, or navigating a challenging situation. Visualization serves as a powerful tool for building confidence, reinforcing positive beliefs in your capabilities, and mentally preparing for success.
A book that I highly recommend for mastering visualization techniques and boosting self-assurance is “Manifest” by Roxie Nafousi. You can find the book for purchase HERE. Trust me, reading this book not only brings enjoyment but also equips you with the tools to achieve your goals. Whenever you need a confidence boost or a reminder on how to visualize and set your goals for manifestation, this book will be your go-to guide.

22. Self Appreciation Journalling
Take a moment today and each day to jot down at least three things you appreciate about yourself. These could be accomplishments, strengths, or qualities that you admire in yourself. By practicing self-appreciation, you can redirect your focus from self-doubt to self-confidence.
23. Positive Mirror Affirmations
This glow-up challenge might feel uncomfortable at first, but remember, discomfort is only temporary. All you need to do is stand in front of a mirror and speak positive affirmations about yourself aloud. This simple practice helps rewire negative self-talk and fosters a more positive self-image. Here are some examples of affirmations you can say out loud:
- “I am worthy of love and respect.”
- “I am confident, capable, and resilient.”
- “I accept myself unconditionally, flaws and all.”
- “I believe in myself and my abilities.”
- “I am deserving of success and happiness.”
24. Read Personal Development Books
Create a list of personal development books that resonate with you, aiming to boost your confidence and guide you toward achieving your goals, ultimately becoming the best version of yourself. Drawing from my own experience, I’ve found personal development books to be incredibly beneficial in improving my skills and helping me achieve my goals. Below, I’ve listed three of these books that I’ve personally read and highly recommend.

26. Declutter Your Space
Take some time each week, preferably on Fridays, to declutter one area of your home. Remove any items that you no longer need or use, creating a space that feels tranquil and well-organized. Simplifying your surroundings in this way can bring about a sense of clarity and inner peace.
I find that not only does decluttering on Fridays help tidy up my space, but it also clears my mind and reduces stress. As the saying goes, “a clean house equals a clean mind.”
27. Random Act Of Kindness
Make it a daily challenge to perform one random act of kindness, whether it’s complimenting a stranger, assisting a neighbor, or volunteering your time. These acts not only bring joy to others but also elevate your own happiness and sense of fulfillment. Don’t forget, you can also extend these acts of kindness to your loved ones, such as your parents, spouse, children, or friends.
28. Daily Self Care Rituals
Create a customized self-care routine tailored to activities that bring you joy and relaxation. This might involve luxuriating in a bubble bath, immersing yourself in a hobby, getting some exercise, or simply savoring a cup of herbal tea while diving into a good book or catching up on your favourite TV show.
For me, my ultimate self-care ritual unfolds every evening. After a long and exhausting day, nothing brings me greater happiness than winding down with a soothing peppermint tea paired with a wholesome snack, all while indulging in a Turkish series.

29. Go On A Solo Date
Take yourself on a solo date at least once a month to prioritize self-care. Pick an activity or destination that truly brings you joy, whether it’s shopping, treating yourself to a manicure or haircut, or enjoying a meal at your favourite restaurant.
Take pleasure in your own company and relish the simple joy of pursuing activities that make you happy without needing anyone else. Treasure the freedom of embracing your own company and savor the contentment that comes from knowing you can enjoy your favourite activities independently.
30. Create A Bucket List
Make a bucket list of experiences and goals you aspire to accomplish in your lifetime. Select one item from your list and take a step towards making it a reality. Whether it’s booking that trip you’ve been dreaming of, learning a new skill, or pursuing a lifelong passion, take action towards making your aspirations a reality.
