Having a productive week every week can be impossible but having the right Sunday routine can make a huge difference. This post shares 7 Sunday routine ideas that you can do every Sunday to help you have a week that is as productive as possible.
Sundays have always been a slow day for me for so long now. After a while, I started to realise that these slow and low Sundays impacted how my week was going to be. I hated Mondays and I realised it was because of how my Sundays were. As you can imagine, having a bad start to the week meant that the majority of the days were unproductive.
Usually, when I have unproductive days it affects my anxiety so much. So I had to make a change. I started building my own Sunday routine and found what worked and what didn’t in terms of helping with productivity and anxiety. Therefore, I wanted to share the 7 best Sunday routine ideas with you so you can start having better days and weeks.
You NEED to stay consistent in this routine to start building a habit. It is said that it takes 60 days for something to become a habit. So if you are struggling with doing certain things, whether that is exercising, eating well or practising gratitude etc, then just bear in mind that it will take 60 days to form a habit.
This post is all about 7 Sunday routine ideas that will help you have better and more productive weeks.
Sunday Routine Ideas
Productive Sunday Routine
1. Plan Out The Week
I am a sucker for planning things out. I have to time block everything because I found that this helps with my time anxiety.
Planning out your week helps you know exactly what needs to be done – instead of waiting for the day to come. Spending the day thinking about what needs to be done on that exact day can be time-wasting and most of the time, from experience, leads to an unproductive day. So it is better to spend Sundays planning out the week so you would know exactly what needs to be done during the week.
When you spend a Sunday planning out the week, you wake up each day knowing exactly what to do which helps to avoid procrastination. When I used to plan my days on the same day, instead of planning a whole week, I would always procrastinate. However, planning for the upcoming week helped with my motivation.
If you struggle with staying motivated, then I have a blog post on three effective ways to stay motivated.
2. Set Your Weekly Goals
Setting weekly goals has made a huge difference for me. Weekly goals should be small goals that will help you achieve your monthly goal. Having weekly goals even if it’s small can give you a purpose for that week. This will help push you to get things done for the week and result in a productive week.
The reason I say to set weekly goals that lead to your monthly goal is that if you set yourself unrelated goals then you will have a bunch of goals which can be overwhelming. And you are less likely going to achieve your goals. For example, If your goal for the month is to lose 1kg, then your weekly goal can be to exercise 5 times a week for at least 20 minutes.
3. Meal Planning
This is my favourite one to do. Meal planning has helped me SO much. I remember I would spend every day thinking, what am I going to make for lunch and dinner? This led me to spend most of my day thinking about lunch and dinner which frustrated me so much. After I started spending my Sunday meal planning, it not only helped with making sure I had all the ingredients at home but it meant that I was spending less time thinking and more time doing.
Meal planning doesn’t only have to be writing down what you will make each day, it can also be meal prepping. I don’t meal prep as I prefer to make things on the day and have everything fresh. However, if you work then meal prepping can be so helpful. You will avoid having take out and also give you more free time after work allowing you to spend time doing other important things.
4. Practice Gratitude
Starting and ending your day with gratitude is so effective in ensuring you have a positive and productive day. And when it is done during the night, it helps you have a positive day the next day. And when it is repeated every night it helps you have a positively productive day every day. You get the point…
Ending the week positively by writing down everything you are grateful for has a significant effect on your mindset and I found that this helps me start my week well. And I always say if you start Monday well there is a high chance that the whole week will be productive. If you want some ideas on how to start your day positively then I have a blog post just about that!
Sunday Reset Routine
1. Self Care
Take a break from everything and have a self-care evening. Take a long bath/shower, wear a face/hair mask or read a book. Whatever a self-care day looks like for you, make Sundays your self-care day! Taking some time to relax helps you recharge and allows your body and mind to be ready for the upcoming week.
Since having self-care Sundays I noticed a huge difference in the way I feel during the week. As a mum, having time to yourself is hard so having the end of the week as a self-care day helps me recharge and prepares me for the week.
2. Create A Zen Space
This doesn’t have to be extreme. Lighting a candle and dimming the lights can make a huge difference. On Sunday evenings I like to come to bed, turn the lights off, switch the lamp on and light a candle. There’s something about dim lights and candles that calms me down.
Creating a calming environment where you are isolating yourself from any distractions or negativity can help you prepare your mind and body for the upcoming week. Resting your mind and body can do wonders with anxiety, a negative mindset, procrastination etc. I struggle with anxiety, and I found spending at least one day during the week creating a zen space to relax my mind and body helps reduce my anxieties during the week. When my anxiety is at its lowest I find that I am most productive.

3. Do What You Enjoy
End the night doing what you enjoy doing the most! Whether that is reading a book or watching a TV show, to release some happy hormones! I love ending my night with some green tea and biscuits, and a show. It puts me in such a good mood, and I found when I sleep in a good mood, the next day I wake up happier and ready for the day.
I hope you found this post helpful and that you can use some of these Sunday routine ideas to help you have more productive days. But do remember that we are humans and sometimes no matter what we do we can still have bad, slow or low days. Just know it is normal.
Lots of love, Mariam x
