How To Make This Sirloin Steak Dinner
How To Cook Sirloin Steak
- Wash and pat dry your steak.
- Let it sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes.

- Generously season with salt and black pepper on both sides.
- In a preheated pan (medium-high/low heat), add 1-2 tbsp of ghee.
- Place the fat side of the steak (the edge) down first and hold it with your hand or a tong for 1-2 minutes to render the fat.
- Cook for 2.5-3 minutes on one side for medium-rare (adjust timing based on your preference), then flip and cook the other side.
- When there’s about 1 minute left, add 1-2 tbsp of butter and 1-2 cloves of garlic (either whole or chopped). I used fresh thyme instead of rosemary, but both work well.
- Once the butter has melted, tilt the pan and baste the steak with the garlic-infused butter.

- Remove from the pan and cover with foil to rest before cutting.
How To Make The Creamy Mushroom Sauce
- Finely chop a small onion and thinly slice the mushrooms.
- In the same pan used for the steak, cook the onions until soft.
- Add the mushrooms and cook until tender.
- Stir in ½-1 tbsp of mustard (I used 1 tbsp but would probably prefer ½ tbsp next time — adjust to your taste).
- Add single cream and mix well.
- Let it simmer until the sauce thickens slightly.
How To Make Mashed Potatoes
- Peel your potatoes and cut them into quarters.
- Place them in a deep pan and cover with water.
- Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are soft — you’ll know they’re ready when a fork slides in easily.
- Drain and transfer the potatoes to a bowl.
- Add butter, milk, salt, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Mash until smooth and creamy.

Spoon the mashed potatoes onto a plate, place your sliced steak on top, and finish by pouring the creamy mushroom sauce over it.
