These are 10 of my favourite self care habits that seriously make a difference to your mood and make you feel your best!
Life can get busy, and when you’re juggling work, family, or a never-ending to-do list, self-care is often the first thing to slip. But taking care of yourself doesn’t have to mean booking a spa day or spending hours on a complicated routine.
Sometimes, it’s the small everyday self care habits you repeat consistently that make the biggest difference to your physical and mental wellbeing.
If you’ve been feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or simply want to prioritise yourself this week, here are 10 simple self care habits that can help you feel healthier, happier, and more energised.
Remember, you don’t have to do all 10 habits perfectly. Choose a few that feel realistic for your current lifestyle and focus on being consistent rather than trying to be perfect.
Choose 2–4 habits that you can realistically do every day, then pick one or two that you can enjoy once a week, especially those that take a little more time. The goal isn’t to create the perfect self care routin. The aim is to build one that’s realistic, sustainable, and easy to stay consistent with.
Self-care isn’t just about feeling good for one day or one week; it’s about taking care of yourself consistently so you have the physical and mental strength to get through life’s hardest days.
The more you prioritise yourself, the more energy you’ll have to show up for the people and things that matter most.
This post is all about the best self care habits!

10 Healthy Self Care Habits
1. Go For a 20-30 Minute Walk
If there is one self care habit I recommend you do every day, it’s going for a walk outdoors!
Never underestimate the power of a simple walk. Even just 10 to 20 minutes outside can help boost your mood, reduce stress, improve your energy levels, and clear your mind.
Walking is also a fantastic way to increase your daily movement without feeling like you’re doing an intense workout. And it is actually one of the best forms of exercise that helps regulate cortisol (the stress hormone)!
If you can, head to a local park or somewhere with greenery. Fresh air and nature can be incredibly calming and give you a mental reset.
2. Have a Self Care Night
Dedicate one evening this week completely to yourself.
Light a candle, take a long shower, complete your skincare routine, apply a face mask or hair mask, watch your favourite film, read a book, or enjoy your favourite healthy snack.
This is something I like to do every night, but I keep it simple and realistic. My evening self-care routine usually looks like a shower, skincare, body care, putting on some cute pyjamas, and then relaxing with my favourite show once the kids are in bed.
Then, once a week, I make it a little more special by having a longer self-care night. I’ll apply a face mask and hair mask, have a relaxing shower, put on my favourite cosy pyjamas, and enjoy a movie with a little snack.
So, I’m still prioritising self-care every single night, but once a week I turn it into a longer, more intentional reset that helps me relax and recharge.
3. Write Down 3 Things You’re Grateful For
Practising gratitude is a very simple self care habit but truly powerful.
Every morning, write down three things you’re grateful for in a notebook, your phone, or in a gratitude journal. They don’t have to be big achievements – they can be as simple as a good night’s sleep, your morning coffee, or spending time with your family.
Starting your day by focusing on what’s going well can help shift your mindset towards positivity and appreciation.
4. Complete Three Strength Training Workouts
Strength training isn’t just about building muscle – it’s one of the best things you can do for your long-term health. It is one of my absolute favourite healthy self care habits that has truly made the biggest difference in my mental and physical wellbeing.
It helps increase strength, supports healthy bones, boosts metabolism, improves posture, and makes everyday tasks feel easier. It can also help improve confidence as you become stronger over time.
The good news is your workouts don’t need to be long. Even 10 to 20 minutes, three times this week, can make a real difference. Whether you’re using dumbbells, resistance bands, or just your body weight, consistency is what matters most.
5. Eat a 30g Savoury High Protein Breakfast
Starting your day with a protein-rich breakfast can help you stay fuller for longer and reduce cravings later in the day.
Aim for around 30 grams of protein by including foods like eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken, or smoked salmon.
Some easy ideas include:
- 3 Boiled eggs with some sourdough and fruits (e.g. blueberries and kiwi are a great source of fibre)
- Cottage cheese pancakes – try my no-blender lemon cottage cheese pancakes
- A veggie omelette – my favourite is my cherry tomato and feta omelette
- Turkish eggs – an easy boiled egg version is my favourite
- Greek yogurt with nuts and seeds
A balanced breakfast can help support steady energy levels throughout the morning and make healthy eating feel much easier.
6. Be In Bed By 10pm
Sleep is one of the most underrated forms of self-care.
Creating a consistent bedtime allows your body and mind to properly recover. Better sleep can improve your mood, energy, focus, immune system, and even your food choices the next day.
Try aiming to be in bed by 10 p.m. this week and notice how much better you feel.
The best way to do this? Have a calming night routine to signal to your body that it is time to relax and get ready for sleep.
7. Have A Face And Hair Mask Day
Sometimes slowing down is exactly what you need.
Set aside 20–30 minutes to give yourself a little pamper session. Apply your favourite face mask, use a nourishing hair mask, moisturise your skin, and simply enjoy taking care of yourself.
Looking after yourself physically can also help you feel refreshed mentally.
8. Switch Off Your Devices Before Bed
Scrolling through social media right before bed can make it harder to relax and fall asleep.
Instead, switch off your phone, tablet, laptop, or TV at least one hour before bed. If that feels too difficult, even 30 minutes is a great place to start. When first getting started, set an alarm to remind you to turn all your devices off!
You could also try avoiding your phone for the first 30 to 60 minutes after waking up. Starting your morning without immediately checking notifications can help you feel calmer and more present throughout the day.
It’s daily self care habits like this that have multiple benefits for your mental and physical wellbeing.
9. Read a Book Instead Of Doom Scrolling
It’s so easy to lose an hour scrolling without even realising it.
This week, swap just 15 to 20 minutes of social media for reading a book instead.
Whether it’s a personal development book, a novel, or something that inspires you, reading can reduce stress, improve focus, and give your brain a break from constant digital stimulation.
10. Read Positive Affirmations Out Loud
The way you speak to yourself matters.
Take a few minutes every morning to read positive affirmations aloud. It might feel a little strange at first, but regularly speaking kind, encouraging words to yourself can help build confidence and create a more positive mindset over time.
Some examples include:
- I am capable of achieving my goals.
- I deserve to take care of myself.
- I am becoming stronger every day.
- I choose progress over perfection.
- I am grateful for all that I have.
