This post is all about the best marble cake recipe
Marble Cake Recipe
Ingredients Needed:
- Flour: I used plain flour.
- Sugar: I used a 100% natural sugar alternative (the one I use – HERE) to keep this recipe as healthy as possible.
- Vanilla sugar: I find this works better than vanilla extract but if you don’t have it then you can use vanilla extract. The vanilla sugar I used, comes in sachets and gives such an amazing taste to cakes. You can find the vanilla sugar I use HERE.
- Unsweetened cocoa powder: This is another change I made to this marble cake that makes this healthier than my normal one. I used to use Nesquik hot chocolate powder which made the cake taste so good by the way. However, I decided to make a switch to cocoa powder for a healthier alternative.
- Oil: I used extra virgin olive oil which gives the cake a rich texture. You can use coconut oil or avocado oil if you wish.
- Milk: I used full-fat milk but you can definitely use unsweetened almond milk.
- Baking powder
Pieces of Equipment Needed For This Marble Chocolate Cake Recipe
How To Make This Easy Marble Cake Recipe
- Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and prepare your loaf pan by lining it with a baking sheet or generously greasing it to ensure your cake doesn’t stick.
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder, then set this mixture aside for later use.
- In a larger bowl, mix (with a hand mixer or a whisk – I used a hand mixer for ease) together the eggs, sugar, and olive oil until the mixture transforms into a creamy, yellow, and slightly fluffy texture (see pictures below for reference). This usually takes about 2-4 minutes.
- Gradually incorporate the flour mixture into the egg-sugar-oil mix. Be sure to also add the milk, mixing thoroughly until the ingredients are well combined. Be careful not to overmix the batter, stop once you feel like the flour has been combined.
- Now, for the chocolate swirl, take about a cup of the batter and add 2 ½ to 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon of milk. Mix until the batter changes into a rich chocolatey colour.
- There are two ways to create the marbling effect: You can either pour the vanilla batter into the pan, followed by the chocolate batter. Alternatively, you can start by adding 2 tablespoons of vanilla batter, then dollop portions of the chocolate batter (resembling the picture below), and continue alternating between vanilla and chocolate until you’ve used all the batter. Whichever method you choose, use a skewer to create the marbled swirl effect by swirling the mixture.
- Bake your cake in the preheated oven. After 35-45 minutes, insert a skewer into the cake to check if it’s done. If the skewer comes out dry, the cake is ready. Remove it from the oven and allow it to cool completely before cutting to prevent it from crumbling. Enjoy your marble cake!
How To Store
Here is how you store your marble cake properly in order to maintain its freshness and flavour:
- Cool Completely: Before storing, allow the marble cake to cool completely. This prevents moisture from building up inside the container.
- Wrap or Container: You have a couple of options. You can wrap the cake in cling film or foil, making sure it’s tightly sealed to keep air out. Alternatively, you can place the cake in an airtight container. Or you can place them in a cake stand with a lid like the one HERE that I have if you are storing them at room temperature.
- Room Temperature: If you plan to consume the cake within 3 days, it’s fine to store it at room temperature in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
- Refrigeration: If you need to store the cake for longer, you can store it in the fridge. Keep it in an airtight container to prevent it from absorbing any odors from the fridge. Before serving, allow it to come to room temperature for about 30 minutes to enhance its texture and flavour. This will keep the marble cake for up to 5 days.
- Freezing: To store the cake for an extended period, you can freeze it. First, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or foil, and then place it in an airtight container or a resealable freezer bag. When you’re ready to enjoy it, thaw the cake in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight. This method can keep the cake fresh for up to 3 months.
