Healthy Twix Bars Recipe
Ingredients Needed
For the base
- Almond flour/Ground almond
- Coconut oil, melted/softened
- Maple syrup
- Salt
For the date caramel
- Medjool dates
- 100% smooth peanut butter (or any nut butter of your choice)
- Maple syrup
- Vanilla extract
- Salt
For the chocolate topping
- Dark chocolate (or milk chocolate)
- Coconut oil
How To Make These Healthy Twix Bars With Date Caramel
- Preheat your oven to 180°C and line a loaf tin with non stick baking paper.
- In a bowl, mix the almond flour, melted/softened coconut oil, maple syrup and a pinch of salt until well combined. Pour the mixture into the loaf tin and spread evenly, and bake for 10–12 minutes, until lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool. Don’t worry if the base still feels soft when you take it out! It will firm up as it cools and become lovely and firm once frozen. Trust the process!
- Soak the Medjool dates in hot water for 15 minutes, then drain. Add them to a blender with the peanut butter, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Blend until smooth and creamy.
- Spread the date caramel evenly over the cooled almond flour base and place in the freezer for 30–60 minutes to firm up.

- Melt the dark chocolate with the coconut oil until smooth, then spread evenly over the caramel layer.

- Return to the freezer or fridge until the chocolate has fully set. Slice gently into bars and enjoy!
Tips To Make Perfect Healthy Twix Bars
- Let the base cool before adding the caramel. The base will be slightly soft and seem ‘uncooked’; as it cools, it will harden, and this way, when you add the date caramel, it will be easier to spread
- Soak the Medjool dates first to help them blend easily into a smooth caramel.
- If your date caramel is too thick, add a tiny splash of water to help it blend.
- Freeze the bars until firm before slicing for cleaner cuts.

Optional Substitutes/Variations
I recommend you stick to this recipe as closely as possible so it comes out tasting as good as it did for me. But if you need to make some adjustments, here are some I recommend:
- Swap peanut butter for almond or cashew butter. Peanut butter does have a stronger taste, so it does make these Twix bars taste amazing!
- I used 70% dark chocolate, so you can use any percentage you like or swap for milk chocolate, which also comes out amazing! This is more about preference.
- Adjust the amount of maple syrup to your preferred sweetness – I do not recommend adding more than what is listed in the ingredients.
How To Store
When you slice your healthy Twix into bars, pop them in an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to a week. This will ensure they maintain their firmness and freshness!
