Say goodbye to the processed store-bought hummus and hello to a homemade and healthy hummus recipe! This healthy homemade hummus recipe takes 5 minutes to make and tastes better than store-bought!
If you’re a hummus fan, you’ve got to give this homemade and healthy hummus recipe a try! It’s not only super easy (made in just 5 minutes), but it also beats the taste of store-bought hummus.
I used to wonder about the healthiness of store-bought hummus. Every time I checked the label, I’d find all sorts of not-so-healthy ingredients like sunflower oil and preservatives. It’s a bit disheartening when something supposed to be healthy ends up not being good for you due to processing.
So, I started making my own hummus. It’s quick, and let me tell you, it tastes way better than any store-bought version I’ve ever had. The best part? I get to use all healthy ingredients, and I have complete control over the recipe.
I wanted to share this with you so you can enjoy a tasty and easy-to-make healthy side dish or snack. Give it a shot, and I hope you find it as delightful as we do. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below; your feedback means a lot. Healthy Hummus Recipe
How Healthy Is Homemade Hummus?
Homemade hummus is so much healthier than store-bought – as long as you are adding the right ingredients, which is why I am sharing this delicious and easy healthy hummus recipe.
Many store-bought hummus products contain additives, preservatives, and stabilizers to extend shelf life and enhance flavour.
Homemade hummus allows you to avoid these additives, promoting a more natural and nutritious dish. With homemade hummus, you can use healthier fats, such as extra virgin olive oil (which is what this recipe will be using as most store-bought ones contain sunflower oil).
Homemade Hummus Ingredients:
- Canned chickpeas
- Fresh lemon
- Organic tahini (make sure you stir it well before using)
- Fresh garlic
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Ground cumin
- Sea salt (please avoid table salt)
- Cold water
How To Make This Easy Healthy Hummus Recipe
- Start by preparing these ingredients: Wash and drain your chickpeas, and mince your garlic.
- Then to a food processor, add your ingredients and blend for a few minutes until smooth and fluffy. Just keep checking on it to make sure you have achieved that consistency.
- Serve on a plate and drizzle some extra virgin olive oil on top if you wish! (9 also added a mix of seasame seeds and black seeds on top)
- Enjoy!

What To Serve Your Homemade Hummus With
There are so many ways you can serve your homemade hummus. It can be served as a snack or with a meal. Here are some of my favourite ways to serve hummus:
- Pita/flat/sourdough bread
- Crackers (on a cheese board)
- Lamb/ or any meat of your choice
- Sandwich/wrap spread
- Vegetable sticks (carrots, cucumbers)
How To Store
- The best way to store homemade hummus is in an airtight container in the fridge.
- Some people squeeze a bit of lemon on top to prevent it from going brown in the fridge.
- Consume your homemade hummus within a week. Although it may still be safe to eat after a week, the freshness and flavour may not be the same.
