The idea of green juice can be off-putting for some. Who would want to drink vegetables right? But there are so many health benefits to having green juice. Later in this post, I will be highlighting some of the green detox juice benefits before I share the best detox juice recipe.
Making your juice at home is so much cheaper than buying them. Also healthier as you know exactly what is in the juice. A detox green juice is a perfect addition to your morning routine! The best time to have it in the morning is before breakfast to allow it to work and clear your stomach.
I only recently started having green juice in the morning and have felt such a huge difference in my metabolism and overall gut health. Some people have it every day, but having it a few times a week is good enough too. As I only started having it recently, I try to have it at least once a week and will slowly increase it to at least 2-3 times a week. The detox green juice recipe I will be sharing can be made with a juicer or blender. The recipe I will be sharing is to be made in a juicer, however, if you want to use a blender instead then I have briefly explained how to make it in a blender.

Detox Green Juice Recipe
What Is Green Juice?
Green juice is a juice made up of green vegetables. There isn’t a specific recipe and everyone adds different things but usually, it would include vegetables like kale, spinach, celery, cucumber, and/or Swiss chard.
Although it is a juice made up of green vegetables, fruits are also added in to give it an extra sweetness so it doesn’t taste bitter. But I would recommend only adding one fruit, such as an apple, to minimize the amount of sugar in your juice.
It is better to make these juices at home as most green juices that are sold tend to have added sugars in them which reduces the drink’s nutrients and health benefits.
Green Detox Juice Benefits
Green juice has many health benefits. Some of its benefits are; it improves digestion, helps with weight loss, reduces inflammation, and boosts immunity.
Depending on what vegetables you add, the benefits of each vegetable would vary. However, they are all packed with essential vitamins and minerals. For example, spinach and celery both are packed with vitamins A, C, and K.
You mustn’t use juices to replace your vegetable intake. Juices tend to lack fibre which regulates blood sugar levels. So even if you are drinking this juice in the morning, make sure you are still having your vegetables and fruits throughout the day for your fibre and protein intake.
My main purpose of having juice is not to replace my vegetable and fruit intake but to boost my immune system and improve my gut health. Also, it is perfect to add to your weight loss journey as it can boost your metabolism.
Do I Need A Juicer Or Blender?
You can use either. I prefer to use a juicer as it is easier and quicker to use than a blender. If you use a blender you will need to strain through a sieve to make it into juice. I have explained below how to do so.

Ingredients Needed
- Celery
- Spinach
- Cucumber
- Green Apple: You can add a green or red apple – it is up to you. The apple is added for some sweetness
- Lemon: Or lime
- Ginger
How To Make The Best Detox Juice Recipe (juicer + tips on how to make it with a blender)
- Start off by washing all your ingredients properly – especially the ginger as you will be leaving the skin on. Once you have washed them all, cut them into chunks that will fit into the juicer – it does not need to be small. Make sure you peel the lemon.
- Add the ingredients one by one through the juicer. When everything has been juiced, make sure to stir the juice so all the ingredients are mixed well.
- Pour into a cup and enjoy!
- If you are using a blender, make sure you juice the lemon first and cut all the ingredients into smaller chunks so they can blend easily. Unless you have a very powerful blender, you can cut them into larger chunks. Once it is all blended, it will be thicker so if you enjoy it like that you can just pour and enjoy. Or if you want it without the pulp, you can use a mesh sieve and use the back of a tablespoon to get as much juice out as possible.
Variations:
You can definitely switch it up by replacing some of the ingredients or adding extra ingredients. Here are some examples:
- You can replace the spinach with kale, add both or add any other leafy green.
- You can add carrots for extra vitamin C but also sweetness. Try not to add any fruits to avoid unnecessary sugar. I tend to only add an apple but if you want to avoid fruits altogether, then a carrot would be perfect.
- Some also like to add parsley or even coriander which are packed with antioxidants and vitamin C.
- I also sometimes like to add a pinch of turmeric powder for an extra boost.
How Long Will This Detox Green Juice Last For?
Typically, it is best to consume your green juice immediately so it is fresh. But if you make double the amount or more, you need to consume it within 2-3 days. The colour will get darker by the next day, but just smell it and see if it still smells good. But don’t go past 3 days.
Detox Green Juice Recipe
Equipment
- Juicer
- A cup
Ingredients
- 2-3 celery sticks
- 1 handful of spinach
- 1/2 of a large cucumber
- 1 medium green apple
- 1 inch peeled ginger
- 1/2 peeled lemon
Instructions
- Wash all ingredients
- Cut celery, cucumber, and apple into quarters to fit in the juicer
- Juice all the ingredients in the order listed
- Optional - if you used a blender you can strain through a sieve
- Pour into a mason jar/cup
- Drink immediately and enjoy!!
