I have struggled with time anxiety for many years. After having my little one, my time anxiety reached levels it had never reached before. This affected my productivity, happiness, health, and personality overall. So, I wanted to share 5 daily habits that have helped me with my time anxiety that I know can help you too.
Time anxiety, for those who may be unsure whether they struggle with it or not, is the fear of running out of time or not having enough time in a day. There is more to time anxiety than what I have just written but the fear of running out of time or not having enough time is very common. I am not a health expert but I want to share what has helped me to hopefully help you too.
I have mentioned this in some of my blog posts but I want to mention it again. If you are in the process of building a healthy lifestyle but only focusing on eating well and exercising, but not focusing on your mental health and well-being, then you are doing it all wrong. One cannot work without the other and I am saying this from experience.
These 5 small daily habits can make a huge difference in reducing your anxiety. All you need to do is stay consistent. And if you struggle with building habits and sticking to them, then I highly recommend the book – Atomic Habits by James Clear. It has taught me so much and changed my life for the better.
This post is all about 5 daily habits that can help with time anxiety.
5 Daily Habits
1. Time Blocking
Time blocking has helped with my time management so much which has helped with my time anxiety. This is when you are writing down your to-do list with specific times for each task. You can use google calendar for this or if you are a little traditional like me then having a planner with time slots is very helpful.
Knowing exactly what you are doing at what time can help you stay organised and manage your time well. This avoids the feeling of not having enough time during the day. This is because you know exactly what you are doing at what time and how long you are going to spend on each task. You may sometimes have to change the time for a certain activity but as long as you time-block it, it will make a huge difference.
2. Prioritise Important Tasks
I have a top priority section where I list out 3-5 things that 100% need to get done. And usually, the first one on the list is the most important. This has helped with my time anxiety massively and I know it can help you too. This is because when we are planning the week or the day we tend to have so many things on our to-do list which exacerbates time anxiety.
So, listing out the top priorities of the day will ensure that even if you do not get everything done you will at least know that the most important tasks have been done. This will help you stress less about things that have not been done and can just be moved to the next day.
3. Planning The Night Before
Planning the day the night before has become part of my night routine and I can not explain how it has helped with my time anxiety. Before I started doing this, I would wake up every morning with 1023834 things to do in my head – I was so unorganised which made my time anxiety so much worse. And that led to me not doing anything. And guess what that did? It made my time anxiety worse.
Some days I spent so long thinking about what needed to be done and because I knew so much needed to be done in the week, I didn’t know what to do each day. Planning the night before can help you stay organised and help with your time management. And just waking up knowing exactly what you will be doing, what your top priorities are, and what time you’re doing each thing can help reduce your time anxiety significantly.

4. Daily Movement
Daily movement can consist of exercise, walks, and cleaning around the house. These daily movements can keep your mind away from your busy schedule and will immediately boost your mood. Not only that, I realised that movement can make you feel a sense of accomplishment which will help you achieve everything else. As they say, one win leads to many wins.
5. Affirmations
This took me a while to realise how much it was helping me with my time anxiety. You need to believe in the affirmations you are reading or writing. Some of my favorite affirmations for helping me feel better when I’ve got time anxiety are – ‘I have enough time to do everything I need to do’, ‘I give myself permission to take a break’, ‘Today is going to be an amazing day’, and ‘I am capable of doing everything I set my mind to’.
Try practicing reading and writing affirmations and watch them calm you down during the most stressful days. You can also download an app called I Am, which notifies you with affirmations every hour!
I hope you found this helpful and makes a difference in your life! Remember not to neglect your mental health because without it you are not building a healthy lifestyle for yourself.
