Respectfully… what even is rice cereal when you can make THIS for your baby? 🥹🤍

Welcome to another episode of my Baby Wellness series: Starting Solids Edition 🥣

One of my favourite things about making homemade baby food is how simple it can be to give your little one real, nutrient-dense foods without spending hours in the kitchen.

This chicken broth gives you THREE things from one simple recipe:
🍗 Chicken thigh purée - a source of protein, iron and zinc, which are important for your baby’s growth and development.
🥕 Carrot purée - provides beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A to support normal vision and immune function.
🍲 Homemade broth - full of flavour and so useful for adding moisture when blending purées or softening foods. Plus, it means nothing goes to waste!

And the best part? You can batch-make everything, freeze it in small portions and have homemade baby food ready whenever you need it. No complicated recipes or fancy ingredients required. 🫶🏼

Here’s how I make it 👇🏼

🥣 Ingredients
4 Chicken thighs (I used @saffron_alley chicken — use my code MARIAM10 for 10% off)
2 Carrots
3 Celery stalks
1 Onion
2 bay leaf
A little turmeric
Water to cover

👩🏻‍🍳 Method
Add the chicken thighs, chopped carrots, celery, onion, bay leaf and turmeric to a pot. Cover with water.

Bring to a boil for 5–10 minutes, skimming off any foam that rises to the surface.

Reduce the heat and gently simmer for around 45 minutes, until the chicken is thoroughly cooked and tender.

Remove the chicken and vegetables, then strain the broth through a fine sieve.

Blend the cool chicken with a little broth until it reaches a suitable purée consistency. Blend the remaining chicken with the cooked carrots and more broth, adding a little at a time until smooth.

Let me know if you’ll be making this for your baby 💗

Small consistent healthy habits can change everyth

Small consistent healthy habits can change everything - not quick fixes and not perfection! 7 non negotiable habits for losing any amount of kg!

1. Home-cooked, blood sugar-balancing meals: you control the ingredients and create meals that keep you fuller for longer and curb cravings

2. Staying hydrated (2–3L a day) - drinking 2-3l helps control appetite, curb cravings and digestion.

3. Planning meals: stops last minute takeout orders and helps you stay consistent with healthy eating

4. Fakeaway meals: control ingredients so you can enjoy your favourite takeouts in a healthier way

5. Strength training 3–4x a week: building muscle helps boost metabolism and burn more calories at rest

6. Daily movement (6–10k steps): walking is the best form of cardio for fat loss

7. Prioritising sleep: better energy, recovery and supports balanced cortisol and blood sugar!

None of it is extreme. These are the habits I do consistently and are game changing!

Losing 20kg after becoming a mum taught me that do

Losing 20kg after becoming a mum taught me that doing MORE doesn’t always mean getting better results 🤍

I spent months trying to eat less, exercise more and do everything “right”, yet I felt exhausted, constantly hungry and frustrated with my progress.

What finally changed things was learning to work with my body instead of constantly fighting it.

I stopped chasing perfection and started building habits that actually worked with my life as a mum — habits I could stick to even on the days when I had very little time or energy.

And honestly? Some of the things I thought I needed to do were the very things making my journey harder than it had to be.

If you’re trying to lose weight, please know that you don’t have to punish yourself to see progress. You deserve to feel nourished, energised and good in your body along the way, too. 🫶🏼

5 things I stopped doing when I wanted to lose wei

5 things I stopped doing when I wanted to lose weight AND KEEP IT OFF (which is the most important thing) 👇🏼
And honestly, none of them involved eating less and exercising more.

1. Counting every calorie:
I stopped obsessing over numbers and started focusing more on whole, nutrient-dense foods that kept me fuller for longer. Prioritising protein, fibre and healthy fats made my meals more satisfying and helped me stay consistent without feeling like I was constantly dieting or treating my body like a maths problem

2. Doing long workouts:
I went from 60 + minute workouts to shorter 30-45 minute strength training sessions 4x a week. They were much easier to fit into my life, which meant I could actually stay consistent.

3. Only focusing on food and exercise:
I realised my approach to weight loss needed to include more than just what I ate and how much I exercised. Sleep, stress, rest and taking care of myself all played a role in how I felt and how consistently I could stick to my habits. Your results are 50% nutrition 40% emotions (e.g. stress) and 10% exercise!

4. Buying trigger foods in bulk:
I used to buy things like big packets of biscuits and crisps and then wonder why I kept reaching for them. Instead, I started keeping more nourishing, satisfying snacks at home and finding healthier versions of the sweet treats I actually enjoyed. Stop buying them and make better healthy snacks at home! You wont reach out for them if theyre not there!

5. Avoiding healthy fat:
I stopped automatically reaching for low-fat everything and started embracing foods like full-fat Greek yoghurt, avocado, eggs and fattier cuts of meat. Healthy fat can be part of a healthy, balanced diet and it helped me make my meals much more satisfying! healthy fats DO NOT make you fat!

These changes helped me lose 20kg without living on salads, cutting out carbs or spending hours in the gym - and, more importantly, they were habits I could actually maintain.

4 things I meal prep so I don’t have to buy the ul

4 things I meal prep so I don’t have to buy the ultra-processed version from the supermarket 👇🏼

And honestly, making them yourself is often easier, cheaper and much simpler than people think.

🥯 Cottage cheese bagels
Instead of buying those “high-protein” or “low-calorie” bagels with a huge ingredient list, I make my own with just a few simple ingredients. You get a protein boost from cottage cheese without needing a long list of unnecessary ingredients.

🥜 Nutty granola
A lot of supermarket granolas can be surprisingly expensive and loaded with added sugar. Making your own means you control exactly what goes in — including how much coconut sugar you use. I actually leave the coconut sugar out completely now, and one batch gives me enough for multiple snacks.

🥞 High-protein cottage cheese pancakes
Instead of buying ready-made protein pancakes, I make my own using whole-food ingredients and cottage cheese for extra protein. No protein powder needed, and they’re so easy to make ahead for busy mornings.

🫚 Ginger shots
These are one of my favourite things to prep because buying them individually can really add up. I can spend around £2 on the ingredients and make enough for the whole week, and one costs nearly £2 from the supermarket.

This is how I make healthy eating feel easier: meal prep the things I know I’ll reach for, make them myself and keep the ingredients simple.
